Setting timing? - 02/24/18 05:29 PM

So im coming from small block stuff with a distributor.

I want to dive into gen3 stuff and I cant find the timing stuf anywhere.

I would be running the Hemi MSD box for ignition. My question is how do you set
Initial timing?

Sorry if I sound dumb AF but ive read and read and cant find this answer

Thanks !

I think the hemi 6 comes with a base timing curve in it.then you either buy the MSD hand held programmer of use a lap top to make adjustments.it is easier to use lap top than the hand held.

You will need a laptop and you download the MSD software the hemi 6 will plug into your laptop (you will need a serial to USB adapter ) and you setup the timing there I don’t think it comes with a curve I can’t remember but the mad guys are good and can walk you through the setup

No 22-25 degrees total is all you need

In case you have moved or changed sensors or even if you haven't, its a good idea to check with timing light after getting her running.

First check timing marks for accuracy with the positive stop method. Then put a light on idling and see what you have. Ideally set up a "timing tune" with timing fixed at something like 15 degrees and verify that is what you have with a light.
