Noise from intake/pcv area 2014 5.7 - 01/07/18 03:30 AM

I have what I can best describe as a churning noise coming from my 2014 Charger Police with 5.7, with only 3800 miles. Car runs great, no engine lights, and I cannot hear the sound from inside car when driving, only when idling. Mechanic used his stethoscope and could hear it in the intake area. We then felt the PCV hoses (I have a BT catch can) and you can feel it in one of the hoses. It's not a steady thing, like I wrote, it's kind of a cyclical churning, almost a grinding but not that rough. I wish I were better at posting video.

Car is well maintained, everything looks normal under hood, no kinked PVC hoses, and definitely does not sound anything like one of the common issues with the 5.7's, e.g., lifter tick.

Any info?

Thank you

Ok, it was Water Pump, to my surprise. That's an early failure! We've had no early failures on any of our Police Chargers at work that I know of, and I'm pretty in tune with the maintenance of them. Guess I just had a bad one. It was strange that I could feel it in one of the PCV hoses running off the catch can. Dealership installed new pump and coolant, free of charge seeing how it's only got 4300 miles, and it's smooth and quiet again.

Thanks all.

I have a 2011 police package and the pump has been replaced 3 times in 76000 miles in my opinion the belt tensioner is killing them way too much tension. The last one I replaced 2 months ago had ground into the timing cover where the impeller spins.
