Intake manifold options for Eagle 5.7

Intake manifold options for Eagle 5.7 - 12/27/17 05:54 AM

I've been trying to get a definitive list of intake manifolds going to figure out what's best to put on my engine. I have a 5.7 which was pulled from a 2014 Ram truck and I want to swap it into my '70 Duster (eventually, gotta save up the money first lol). My plan is to use the MP PCM and harness kit and reuse the factory EFI and ignition. The stock truck intake that came with it has a broken dual-runner actuator on the back. Would this be worth fixing and a good choice for an A-body swap or would something else be better? I know there's also the later 5.7 car intake, the "old" aluminum 6.1 intake, the 6.4 SRT manifold with dual-length runners, and the aftermarket aluminum single-planes. I think the 6.4 manifold is cool but those seem to be pretty rare used, it's not like I'm going to have this thing running anytime soon though so maybe I should just wait and keep an eye out?

EDIT: Also planning on using a replacement 6.4 SRT cam and deleting the MDS along with new springs, pushrods and lifters. Transmission will be some kind of overdrive 5- or 6-speed manual (thinking T-56 atm).

You also have the edelbrock intake. The upcoming intake from Holley will be out soon I hear and another project is in the works for a sheet metal design using a shorter extruded runner
And billet flanges
I'll have the design completed soon I hope and will start work on the prototype
That's all I can give as far as details at this moment

Don't waste your time on fixing the truck manifold, its not a bad intake, but the car/Jeep intakes pop up regularly on eBay in the 150-400 range, and places the TB in a horizontal position, makes for better air cleaner options.

As for a list of intakes
Ritter- single plane
Drag Pak - single plane
Mod man.....not sure what you would call that
OCP- dual plane
Edelbrock- barrel stock type
Edelbrock- dual 4 bbl intake
XV single plane....ultra rare, made back in 08-?
And of course the stockers.
The is also a BDS intake for the 671/871
Mopar has a f--ing expensive single 4bbl intake
And a few sheet metal options from different fabricators.

Forgot the Arrow Single plane intake.

The Holley Sniper intake is easy to modify if your good with welding,
I've seen a Northstar Eaton M122 intake/blower (04-08?) modified to work on the g3 motor, issue with that is 1) it's a Eaton , 2) the TB is in the back right up against the fire wall on the ram truck it was it, I would think in a retro fit(A/B Body) the TB would be in the firewall.
Porsche Caymen Intake modified to work on a G3.....not worth the effort runners are the same length as a 6.1 Barrel intake.
I've been working on a Cross-ram based off of the G2 viper...yeah trust me when I say it's not that great, money could of been better spent.

Sure like to know more about this! Pics?? Details?? Intake flange angle obviously, but were there port spacing issues?

No need to modify a sniper
They are releasing one

I have the spy phot to prove it

Like Steve said Holly is going to release one soon.
but spacing is 99% identical to the G3, the LS7 & LSX are closer to the pre Eagle shape then the 6.1/6.4 Eagle head.

Back in late 2013 thru early 2014 the company I work for did Endurance testing on intakes based off of or similar to Holley 300-130,300-131,300-124 & 830031. 5 engines each intake, we were looking for real world flow issues.
With the Challenger selling like it has and FC pushing Retro fit G3s it's only a matter of time before the After market catches up to the demand.
We were told at the time the big issue was the approach angle to the intake port, because it's horizontal and not angled getting the flow to maintain speed and still be able to keep the intake under the hood , hence why the Drag Pak is Sooooooooo F--ing tall.
Due to an N.D.A That's all I'll say.

Wow lots of info thanks guys! I guess now for me it's a toss-up between a Jeep/car intake and one of the 4-bbl-style aftermarket single planes. Since I'll need another TB anyway is there a vertical one out there which will fit the aftermarket intakes and still work with the factory drive-by-wire and EFI? I'd love to be able to still make use of the functional dual-snorkel hood scoop and 14x3" K&N filter on my Duster...

I think the ocp intake does

My niece had one on her challenger, for what the car was at the time it was one of the better intakes we had on it.
I know of 2 Ram guys and one B-body guy who love this intake.

How close did the Cadillac Eaton M122 match up to the Hemi? Bore spacing smaller? Adapters used?

That's a really nice-looking piece, if I was going carb'd I'd use that in a heartbeat. However for EFI I want to stick with one of the single planes (prob Arrow Racing) or one of the stock plastic ones. That TB adapter kit OCP makes is sweet, if I do end up using a single-plane I'm definitely getting one of those kits for it.

OP performance intake has a DBW adapter plate for the 4150 pattern for his intake. Im thinking on doing that myself on my 5.7 Eagle build

Northstar is only a 4 inch bore center, the intake spacing is 4.25, adaptor was a 1 inch think by 2.5 wide piece of alum, during the conversation about the trail and error fitting , he started with lining up the intake as best he could on the center 4 cylinders, and did all the port transition work in the adaptor.
