Bare 6.1 block from Indy? - 08/13/17 08:08 PM
Anyone buy a bare 6.1 block from Indy cylinder heads? Seem to be the cheapest on the planet at $995. when I called them he wasn't in the mood for questions. ANY questions...
Seems the going rate elsewhere is $1600-1800, so does anyone know what the catch is??

1. Indy is run by d!ckheads.
2. They must have dropped their price, I called 1.5 years ago and the blocks were 1500 if I remember correctly.
3. It was RUMORED that the blocks Indy has were 2nds and had problems. What problems those were I am unaware of.
If you decide to look for a 6.4 vvt block ( new) please pm me.

I seriously doubt they have any 6.1 blocks left. They never update their advertising.

INDY bought a bunch of defective blocks for dirt cheap from Fiat years AGO. Tread lightly.

That doesn't surprise me, sadly. I called again trying to ask questions and was told "buy one, that will answer all your questions." Then promptly hung up on me. Holy smokes!

That ad with the $995 price is very old, 2012 or so. I emailed them about one of those blocks a while back and was quoted $1995, shortly after that I attended the Indy Mopar swap meet and they had one of those blocks in their booth for $2995

For less than 1500.00 you can get a truck AKA Hellcat block right from FIAT already machined.
That block will take more that 99.99999% of the abuse most can throw at it!

Ill sell you a 6.1 block for $5k.
It comes with lifters, cam, pistons, rods, crank, timing chain, oil pump, pickup, windage tray, milodan pan. And it was balanced, machined and assembled by the clearance nazi as I use to call him. RIP Dan

Get a 6.1 block if you can find a good one at a fair price.
New blocks require a cheesy cam phaser lockout and there's no after market timing sets available to eliminate the cam phasing mechanism and OEM timing chain all together. There's also a specific cam core needed because of the related cam phasing BS that was done to the block.
Has anyone measured the quality/accuracy of the newer OEM machined blocks vs a block machined by a good machine shop?
There's a reason the OEM 6.1 blocks are still in high demand (and very expensive) and why the aluminum performance blocks are based off the 6.1.
Be careful when offered the cool-aid for the newer blocks...
A newer block will work, just be aware of the never ending Mopar band-aids and fixes needed to make something work outside of a production environment.

So whats the market value of a as delivered never run, stock bore 6.1 block out of my 2009 Dragpak? I run the 5.7 and the 5.9 magnum so other than using it for a coffee table, it will never get used by me. Eric

I'll start the bidding at $1.
I'd probably list it for $2500+ considering its a virgin block with machine work "ready to go" that will help the value.

Bought a few 6.1s at an estate sale 3 weeks back several blocks a few short blocks and a few crate engines , 2 of the 6.1 blocks had Indy Shipping labels on the crates,...sent both over to the machine shop, deck was fine, crank bore alignment was fine, Block 1 ,Core shift on passenger side bank was not fine, block 2 is ok all way around...Indy = pot luck.

6.1 blocks are scarce enough that NHRA now allows the use of the aluminum block. Chuck Lofgren reported a significant power increase, and poor 60 fts because the car trips the 60 ft beams with the back tires. Chassis tuning time😀
