Gen III Block Length Compared to RB - 04/08/17 11:08 PM

Hello All,

I'm considering a G3H engine for a project which currently has a mid-plate and front motor plate for a 440.

I've searched and can't find definitive numbers/differences in block lengths. Anyone know this?

I want to try and adapt a G3 motor plate to the current 440 motor plate mounts. I'm assuming the G3 is shorter. The measured distance on my 440 block is approximately 23.5 inches from the rear face to the water pump face.

I also realize I'll need to change the mid-plate bolt pattern to match a small block bell-housing. I have a bolt-in mid-plate mount and just need to get one for an LA pattern and fit it accordingly.

Ideally, I would like to leave the option to run a G3 or RB engine setup, with minimal fuss to run either.

Thanks!

I couldnt believe it but i use the same plates mounted to my frame for my g3 that i used for my bb.

That's excellent, how was this possible? the bb has to be longer. From what I have found there may be up to a 2.5 inch difference in block lengths.

How/where are the front plates attached to the motor?

Any pics of this?

The timing cover on the g3 where my plates bolts to makes up the difference

I found this info which gives an overall length of 21.1 inches. I'm assuming its the rear face to timing cover dimension as the other dimensions seem to be raw/basic technical dimensions.
