Re: 6.2 heads2 - 11/28/15 07:56 AM

Don't 6.2 heads have a different intake bolt pattern? Also I think they're basically a beefed version of the Apache (as in physically stronger, same port configurations though). What do you have planned for 6.2 heads?

First I heard of a different bolt pattern

Re: 6.2 heads2 - 11/28/15 04:18 PM

Yep, the 6.2 has a different intake bolt patter for use with the supercharger. An alternative would be the 2014 up 6.4 truck " Big Gas heads". From what I understand they are basically strong like a hellcat head.

Where did the bolt pattern info come from? Port location the same?
Thanks for the help guys

Re: 6.2 heads2 - 11/29/15 02:15 AM

The bolt pattern difference came from Dave Weber of Modern Muscle. Honestly I would look for a nice set of apache's or eagles and don't look back.

You can get Apaches right now new for like $1200, and they even come with spark plugs. [ Moparts Family Site - Keep it Friendly ]?

Re: 6.2 heads2 - 11/29/15 04:19 PM

Doesn't the intake have an extra bolt hole and that is it? Head bolts and exhaust bolts are the same. Material they cast the head with is stronger and valve are soduim filled IIRC.
I THINK a regulr intake will bolt on.
Port are the same location. IIRC.

Re: 6.2 heads2 - 11/30/15 12:42 AM

I saw a video that compared the Appache head and the Hellcat head but for the life of me I can't find it. I think it was on facebook which I don't have.

Re: 6.2 heads2 - 11/30/15 01:20 AM

Found the video, but it doesn't say anything about the intake ports or bolt pattern.

hellcat heads have different intake pattern because of the blower...

Re: 6.2 heads2 - 12/01/15 04:00 PM

Looking at the two heads side by side, it appears that the intake bolt boss is there for non-blower application, but not threaded. It looks like a simple drill and tap to allow a non-blower intake to bolt up. I don't have these in front of me, just going by pics.

Hellcat head on top.
Appache heads on bottom.

Anybody have pics of the exhaust side to compare?

Re: 6.2 heads2 - 12/01/15 09:35 PM

Very cool info.
Who would be best to contact to get the best deal on a set.
I can't find apache heads anywhere near the price mentioned.
I'm leaning towards hellcat heads still.

Re: 6.2 heads2 - 12/02/15 06:15 AM

I called Dave Weber's Modern Muscle shop today and I was told that the Super Charged head is unique, built for the Super Charger. However, they also confirmed something I wondered about. The head on the 6.4 Ram truck engine is the same head as the SC head and is drilled for an NA intake. That's the one to use if you want the non-SC intake bolt pattern. They mentioned that the main advantage of the SC or Ram head was its stronger material for boosted applications.

+1
Hellcat head is unique; it's 356-T6 aluminum just like the supercharger rotor case vs. the 319 alloy the other heads use. The 6.4 truck head is also 356-T6.
Another thing that hasn't been mentioned is that the passenger side head will have dowel holes machined in them to locate the 'charger. This would obviously only apply to those who were looking to mount a supercharger. Not sure if the truck heads would have these machined holes or not. From what I can recall, I have seen sets of heads with the SC bolt pattern without the dowel holes.

Re: 6.2 heads2 - 07/21/16 09:11 PM

If you use the truck heads they use the standard G3 Hemi intake pattern. The Hellcat heads have a unique pattern exclusive to the superchargers. Long story short, use the truck heads.

I find find it hard to believe its the same head casting and material with different bolt pattern. It's listed $300 cheaper than a hellcat head.

Any insight to the pn change for 15-16 hellcat heads?

Re: 6.2 heads2 - 08/01/16 08:43 PM

Just for any interest. The heads have changed to pn 68225718ab and 19ab. They are the new pns for the 16 and 17 heads. They want up in price but the core charge is less so they are cheaper than the 15 heads. Dealer said they had no idea what the changes are.
They are on the way.
