Milodon road racing small-block oil pan...

Is this something i really need? I dont have ANY pan for my 360 Magnum yet, and one is available used... but its still gonna sink me probably $250-300 more than a basic 360 pan will. Do i need 7 quarts? Will all the tricks (baffling and such) be worth it on a corner carver/canyon killer?

And issues with using one? (install, clearance, anything i need to know, etc.)

Steve Wall (AutoXCuda) has a small block one in his car, I've got the B engine version in mine- both A bodies. Trimming of the K may be needed, but really you should be pulling the K out to weld it up and gusset the box mounts anyway. I didn't have to do any additional trimming or notching. Do you need one- Come on Man! YES! or make your own pan with kickout and baffles. An Accusump is not a bad idea either.

You won't need any mods to put it in an EBody or Bbody k-member.

Only the tight A-body 73-76 spool mount k-members. It's helpful to put a notch in the k for clearance. I didn't notch mine. But it nearly touches.

IMO, a high quality, professionally built pan is cheap insurance on an engine. $500 seems expensive until you frag a $5000-8000 engine.

Now, can you build your own to save some bucks, absolutely. Oil starvation is the big issue with lateral loading, so installing shelves, gates, and extenders in a stock pan to keep oil around the pick up goes a loooong way over doing nothing. Oval track suppliers can provide kits to add capacity. While designed for left hand turns, adding two kits to both sides of the sump is possible. The kicker is that you have to understand the kit size and clearances you are working with to ensure it doesn't interfere.

A more budget friendly version may be the Kevko unit. While not as technically advanced as the Milodon pan, its better than stock.

Hmmm... interesting. I just pulled up pics on google (most came from here). Seems a bit overkill for what i need, right now anyways, but i like planning for the future. My concern, is budget... is it worth a SLAM to my already tenuous budget right now. I had budgeted for a $50 used pan from some Mopar parts vulture. Even a $300 used set up will run me well over $400 by the time i can hold it.

The Kevco kit looks interesting, last time i looked for it i couldn't find it...

I have the road race pan on my Gen 3 which is basically the same thing. First time at Big Willow in 2016 I ran 135 mph down the straight and slammed on the brakes for the left hand turn 1. My oil pressure light lit up consistently at that corner which got me concerned. Opened up my oil filter afterwards and found zero metal bits or bearing material. I have since added an Accusump and the oil pressure light lit up maybe 3 times the last time I was there running the same speed in April 2017.

Nope, I have not. They have been in the oval track game for quite a while though. It used to be their only mopar pan was a rear sump, modified chassis pan. This center sump stock chassis unit is newer.




Well then, modify your stock pan. Add on extension kit for $19 or a add on trap door kit for $15. Of course, both chevy based, but adaptable.

Other option, roll you own oil accumulator. There are some budget options around this effort as well that you could make with hardware store parts for under $30. Its not like the oil system is super high pressure;

We tried all of those pans on Tim's red Valiant. He had Kevko build him custom pans, we tried the Milodon pan as well as several other pans. The Milodon pan works pretty well but it is a real pain to install. It has been a few years but I think we ended up building a new K member in order to use the Milodon pan.

I used a Kevko baffled pan with the 360 for about four years. Nice pan, fit well.

I have a Milodon Road Race pan without any problems of fitment in my Dart. Granted I heard they fit well with the '68-72 K-frames.

Hmmm... as it stands (sits) i'm still undecided. It was one thing to want to spend (a lot ov) money on a used Milodon system (pan, pick-up, pump), that would solve all the problems, but to spend almost as much money on a Kevco pan that really only upgrades one issue (baffling, the extra capacity is only one quart)... i dont know. If i can find something used in a stock pan for under $50 i'll go that route for now. Kinda liked the idea ov the Milodon pan... maybe another used one will come up between now an the time i actually need a road racing pan...

I used to trash the [censored] outta my Charger's 440... Hell, ran it low on oil half the time, and that was a stock 4qt pan. Saw nothing upsetting when i tore that engine down...
