Spax Double Adjustable shocks

I haven't seen any feedback on them, but they are available for our cars. Their website doesn't show shipping to the colonies, but an e-mail shows they do. Since the Pound has been taking a post brexit beating I'm going to take a shot. The cost for a set of 4 including shipping is £371.64, or $483.13. Hard to pass up on that- for me anyway.

Not much here on them on this forum, but the hard core mopar corner guys have been using them for quite a while. Never read anything bad about them other than cost, but given the critical nature of shocks, its a justifiable cost.

Only shocks I could find listed for the Jensen Interceptor.
Haven't installed then yet, but I think they have around 18 adjustment "clicks"?

The shocks I'm looking into have "28 stage Bump & Rebound damping adjustment" Right now I'm waiting on a response from them about their hours of operation. They don't accept PP and I'm not comfortable e-mailing my CC info. So I need call and it looks like they are 8 hours ahead of me.

G480 are the front. Rear needs bushings which you have to buy separate.

I assume these would be adequate with 1.12" torsion bars on an A-body with 225# springs in the rear? Anyone have experience with these on the larger bars?

Irony is I have been wondering what I would do for shocks, and you reminded me that I had these in my stash.

Thanks for that info, The bushing situation isn't mentioned by Spax website nor the sales rep I've been dealing with.

I'm hoping so, I'm running the 1.12" bars in front, I've got the Hotchkis rear leafs, relatively soft at 130 lbs/in.

My rear shocks, part number G3287, are new in the box, and as can be seen in the picture - no bushings.

Bushings I have are two sets of Energy Suspension Part Number 9.8110G. I am just assuming these are correct, they are sitting on top of the rear shock box. I think I just bought what someone told me was correct, they look correct if that helps.

Thanks, I found a Spax vendor on E-bay that is located in the Maryland location. The cost is better than direct from Spax. I was thinking that the shock bushings shouldn't be difficult to pick up. I just got a response from Spax, the rear shocks now come with a bushing, as of the end of 2015.

I've installed the SPAX shocks. I'm still using the older version (just 14 clicks, so slightly coarser adjustment). They are not double adjustable, but the last few clicks in the range effect both compression and rebound.

The G480 & G481 shocks are designed for Australian valiants and need some minor mods to fit the US & UK A-bodies. Front shocks need the bushing sleeve opened up very slightly with a drill or reamer. Also SPAX ran out of bushings for the rear shocks, so you need to install your own bushings now. (this was some years back, situation may be different now).

For the rear shock bushings, I used polyurethane Chrysler 5/8" Shock Bushing (Energy Suspension #9-8112G). The 11/16" inner diameter was not available. However all of the other dimensions are correct, so its "just" a matter of drilling out the center. Although easier than drilling rubber, the bit still wants to tear rather than cut the soft material. Freezing helps make it stiffer. After drilling, I cut the bushings in half with an Xacto razor saw and a sharp utility knife. By making two halves, the bushing does not need to pressed in.

They showed up today, no bushings on the rear Not though. I'll make some measurements and order from SummitClaus. Hey, it's just like Xmas, including the CC bill.

Thanks, It'll probably be a couple of weeks before I get to the back to check stuff out. This weekend I'm pulling the Pass side suspension off to install the heim joint boots and install the steering column.

How do Spax compare to the Viking shock? what would be applicable to a B-body?

I'd say the Vi-king shocks are a step or two above the Spax, they are true double adjustable and the valving can be customized. They are more expensive too. Can't help with the B stuff, it's just min-max length and bushing opening.
I'm not going to be wrenching for a few weeks, broke a finger @ work, first time in 32 years I got hurt that I couldn't work. Still I'm @ work, just doing some paperwork. Just puts a serious crimp in the Ricer Cuda work.

Do these SPAX shocks work on a lowered car? I have QA1 single adjustables and they are bottoming out. I had to use lowering blocks on the rear shock pad to keep the rears from bottoming, but I have no options like that for the fronts.

You need to measure the compressed length and see. I've had a lot of health issues over the last year-all work related, and am just getting to a point where working on the 'Cuda is feasible, and have decided to stick with the installed RCD shocks for now.
