I tried this in the tech forum and didn't get much response, so I'll try it here. I am struggling a bit in looking for shoes and pads for my Cuda with 11.75 rotors and sliders on the front and 11 x 2 1/2 rears.

The front calipers came from a Cordoba and have parts store organic pads while the rears look like some 40 or 50 year old stock shoes. I would like to put new pads and shoes on this winter and would like to do better than AutoZone or O'Reilly's stuff.

First, this is a street car that sees some 1/8 mile action. It is no corner carver by any stretch. I would just like to get some better pads and shoes with better stopping power than the stuff on there now.

What would you recommend for this application?

Firm feel sells carbon metallic pads and shoes for your needs, never used them myself.

Summitt lists EBC red and yellow for the sliders.

Other than that, for sliders there isn't a lot of choices.

Firm Feel only has organic rear shoes. And the front pads are for pin. I can change caliper adapters and calipers if need be. But Firm Feel recommends that the same type of material be used on both ends of the car, which I agree with. So, I am uncomfortable with carbon met on the front and organic on the rear.

If spending the extra coin on carbon met (or any other superior compound) for the front pads nets any braking improvement, then the front and rear would be very out of balance with organic on the rear.

I am surprised that I am having a hard time finding ANY matched pads and shoes other than the auto supply econos.

I had bought the last two sets of carbon metallic I could find for the front sliders if that would help. They are new in the box.

You can send the backing plates of your current pads to Carbotech and they can whip up a set of custom brake pads with the compound of your choice.

It's not cheap but neither is crashing your car because of inadequate brake pads.

Actually, they show a listing that will work, Diplomat pads. Not cheap is right thought, starts at $145 and goes up from there. No shoes though.

I think this is what I will do;
I have some tall pin type brackets, so I guess I will swap to them. And then buy some reman pin type calipers ($25 or so apiece) so I can use the Hawk HBSs which are about $60 on Amazon. Then just get some Raybestos or Bendix stockish rear shoes since there doesn't seem to be any other real choices.

I spoke with Cass at Dr.Diff today and he felt that with the big 11 x 2 1/2 rears that there would be no problem mixing the types front and rear.

How's that for a plan?

I have run the FF carbon metallic shoes on the rear and they are nice... shame they are no longer available. Organics should do fine on the rear for street and drag use... just not the best for repeated HS stops as in road race track. That said, if your current rear shoes have at least 1/3 lining and work, I'd leave them alone.

For the fronts, I would want something better than organics... at least a semi mettalic. I have run performance friction carbon metallic and EBC yellow for street and road track. Both work well though need one stop to warm up and fully bite. Rock Auto seems to list several pad options... if they have a Raybestos semi metallic to fit your calipers, that would be my suggestion.

RockAuto has some Raybestos metallics on close-out for $20. But the description says OE quality.

The Hawks are nearly 3 times as much. But $40 more isn't a big deal IF they had noticeable more bite. Is it your opinion then that the Hawks do not have enough additional bite to warrant their cost?

If you want an upgraded pad Summit has a semi metallic Bendix and should meet your needs without all the swapping around. The rear organics should be fine, short of serious corner carving. Make sure all the spring hardware is in good shape, it's easy to change and not expensive. Check the backing plates for grooves where the shoes ride and the wheel cylinders for leaking. Check and replace the hoses and flush out the old brake fluid. Basic stuff that will make a big difference in brake performance. HTH, Steve

Rockauto has the same Bendix MKD pad for less, look under Diplomat listing.

That looks like the ticket! I was looking under the Charger heading thinking that it wouldn't matter what body I chose since all the shoes would fit. Well, I was wrong.

I will order the Bendix and some organic rear shoes.

Lots of lost technical info and sources here...copy, paste and save in an organized fashion is a lost art in today's instantaneous world of the internet. While i really do not want to post - I hate to sit by and watch poor information given out.
Organic shoes on a car that will see high speed braking...really??? That is very bad thinking. Fred Flintstone will stop better.

I already have the Bendix TitaniuMettalics in hand. Got them from RockAuto. They have the break-in material on them and look and feel very high quality. As to how they actually stop......we have yet to see.

All I could find for the rears were organics. I was hesitant to use better material on the front pads than on the rear shoes. But, as I said before, Cass at Dr Diff thought that with the large rear shoes that having organics on the rear would not be an issue. If there is some sort of issue with the rear brakes, I can go back and change the shoes out for something else or swap in different diameter wheel cylinders.

Remember, I don't have any real issues with the brakes on the car now. I just thought that while I have the car apart swapping engines, I would go ahead an replace the shoes and pads and upgrade where possible.

I am very surprised at the lack of better choices for these pads and shoes.

I will keep Rochester Clutch and Brake contact info. I had not heard of them and would have liked to have had their number earlier while I was searching.

Did you even read the OP? " A street car with some 1/8 mile" No corner burning or road course driving. Next time read before posting. The information was fine for the application. Hell, the Hemi cars came from the factory with 11" 4 wheel drums. It's not like he has 10" drums and wants to take it on a high speed track.
