295 BFG Rival not available

295 BFG Rival not available - 09/28/15 10:35 PM

Just a heads up!

I called Tire Rack & BF Goodrich to see if the 295/35R-18 Rival tire was still available and they said that they are discontinued until 2017 which sucks.

Good news is that the Rival S is available in a 315/30-18
Nitto also has a 305/35-18 in the NT01's but they are 100 treadwear which won't last as long.

BFG can suck it. They create rules that cater to them, then drop the ball on supplying rubber for MONTHS. All they do is supply Detroit Speed and Ridetech so they can take cool pictures of cars with their tires. Rant over.

So what are you planning on running up front now?

Re: 295 BFG Rival not available - 09/29/15 11:17 PM

My 295's are still good plenty of meat on them as I haven't driven my car at all this year.
The great thing is that the Ebody and I am guessing Bbody can swallow a big tire up front 295, 305 & 315 and there are plenty of tire choices that should be available

With stock front fenders or with modified fenders?

Pretty much stock with the Cuda fenders. You do have to fold up the lip though.
I maybe different with the Chally?

B-body runs out of real estate as quick as the Challenger does. 295 is as big as I've been able to go and without SUPER careful spacing, they'll run the inner fender and frame rail like a son-of-a-gun. My fender have a noticible "pooch" to them and if we go bigger I will have to do some metal work, which I really don't want to do to my car; as I don't want to disrupt the lines any further.

We need more pictures with this.

I'm trying to get a 275/40-18 on the front of my B-body with a spaced out 6.18 mustang wheel.

Those are 295/35/18's

This is 275/40/17's

Re: 295 BFG Rival not available - 09/30/15 08:45 PM

Yes the wheel spacing needs to be precise, custom offsets or the tire will not fit

Re: 295 BFG Rival not available - 09/30/15 09:00 PM

The second picture above is a 17x9 5" BS. An off the shelf wheel. The one above that is a little bit more involved.

I'm going to end up with a 18x9 5.18" BS. Close enough for now.

You guys are lucky!

My 65 Belvedere had light rubbing on the inside and outside with 245/45-18 tires up front.

Ariel, what are your wheel sizes/ offsets? Are you still running the wheels in the Drive video?

Re: 295 BFG Rival not available - 10/17/15 03:35 AM

Hello my wheels are 18x10.5's all around. I forget the exact offsets though?
Yes they are the same wheels in the Drive video

Also https://www.jacksonmotorsportsgroup.com/tire_sales
was the best prices I found much less than Tire Rack

I got a set of the Rival S 315's and will post up a pic vs. 295's when I get them

I'm impressed up I love the concept and philosophy of the project.

One small detail that I would do and would if my car irritate me severely, I'd have to close off/reshape the open ends of the front spoiler, I suspect with wide fronts your are losing a lot front spoiler effectiveness with this detail.

Replacing front or rear tires with those? Although I guess a set would imply 4 tires while a pair would be 2....

Thanks jcc!

With the front spoiler you are probably right!
I didn't design it though and is really is just an ABS copy of the fiberglass ones which are a copy of the 1970 TransAm `Cuda spoiler.
It is still somewhat effective because without it installed my hood lifts up at about 70mph.

Hey Mike!
I got a set of 4. I always go square for more neutral handling and the ability to rotate tires.
My 295's don't need replacing yet and honestly would rather have that size but they are now discontinued.
Kind of forced to see how 315's fit and it should fit fine with a 10.5" wheel. A wider wheel would give me problems.
I won't know for sure until I get the actual tire so I am doing this for the sake of research.
haha!

He is 315's at all corners. That qualifies as badass in my book.

Re: 295 BFG Rival not available - 11/22/15 03:37 AM

My 315's came in!

Unmounted they measure at about 12-3/4" across

and are about 25-1/4" tall unmounted.

They look a lot wider than the 295's

There should be just enough room to fit the rears.

Re: 295 BFG Rival not available - 11/22/15 03:37 AM

For the fronts it looks like a tighter fit

I am going to have to raise the ride height and add more negative camber to make the 315's fit but it should not be a problem.

Here is a comparison with the 295's vs 315's for reference. The 295's are BFG KDWS tires but measure the same as the 295 Rivals.
They are both 11-1/2" wide when mounted on a 10.5" wheel.

The 315's are about 1-1/4" wider. So when mounted I estimate they will gain about 5/8" per side vs. the 295's

Re: 295 BFG Rival not available - 11/23/15 09:11 PM

Rylis -- 315s all around is awesome!!! Make them fit... do whatever you have to... (IMO... since your car isn't a factory original numbers matching can't drive it may get injured, too much collectable isms..... just modify the fenders as needed... they can be made to look and appear stock with careful massaging, etc).

Then... re-learn how to drive the car and to take advantage of the added rubber.... it'll take some brief time... but you'll be super satisfied! In my area, there are increasingly more Camaros and Fbirds, and late model Mustangs... running 315s f/r. BUT... the bottom line is still the driver.

Mopwer to ya!

Looks like need to add more caster to my setup which will help with the needed neg camber.
I will not be able to mount these for a while though as the the 295's have a lot of life still left so I bagged up the 315's for now.

I wish they still made the 295's it would have made everything simpler haha!
At least I can push the envelope and maybe help others how to mount the widest possible tires on their own Mopars

Rylis,

You can bring those over and test fit on my car wink hahah

Re: 295 BFG Rival not available - 11/24/15 10:52 PM

Hey Mike,
It's good you are getting the motor and tranny in as the final ride height of the car is critical when getting front wheel measurements.
I think a 10.5" wheel is the widest we can run with the Hotchkis setup. Any wider and you run into the bump steer spacers. You could take them out but would have to deal with more bump steer.

For the rears it looks like the 315's will touch the leaf spring on the passenger rear but I can probably use a 3mm spacer and be fine.

I can still bring my wheels with 295's and help you measure
just let me know!
