Borgeson Steering box for B-Bodies - r we good? - 08/11/15 08:33 PM

Hey team, obviously, the Borgeson steering box has been out for a while now. Have all the issues been worked out as far as being a direct bolt in that works with no problems?

Or is this still a hit or miss upgrade?
I'd rather not pay $900.00 or so to find out it's still got problems...

What say all of you - being you who have purchased and installed this upgrade.

FWIW, I have a 70 Coronet with power steering I currently have a stage 1 box from Steer-&-Gear...it's better than stock but I'd love to upgrade this

Maybe you don't want to hear from the one that sells them and makes the installation parts...This box has evolved into an all brand new box and is even smaller than the 1st gen style. At this point, it's a bolt in and fits 99% of its intended applications without issue. If you have a hemi with 2.25" headers and a Tremec with 8 deg of pinion angle, you may have an issue....The key here is the feel. This box is a little faster ratio than stock and has a sharp on center feel, which is where the oe box falls short every time. I'm sure others will chime in here and there and you'll make a choice that works for you.

Does the newer Borgeson ps box have a greater or lesser turning "angle" vs the stock Mopar old PS box?. Does anyone know this?

Also, the old standard Mopar ps box has 3.5 turns lock-to-lock; the T/A PS box has 2.7 turns lock-to-lock.

How many turns... lock-to-lock... is the NEW Borgeson-box? (this may have been asked sometime in the past when it was first introduced via the forum).

T/Anks ahead.

Just to clarify for others as I know you already know this... The "T/A box" with 2.7 turns lock to lock is only with the special T/A longer pitman arm. The longer pitman gives it the increased ratio. The T/A box has revised end stops compensate for the longer arms.

Mitch, since its a 14:1 instead of 15.7:1 and has the same 3.5 turns lock to lock, it does actually turn a little more. My A body with 9" rims in the front gently contacts the sway bar at full lock. I run a 72 and down setup. Hellwig makes a bar that has kinks in the legs of the bar for additional clearance, BUT it does not fit with the early style (outboard) end link locations.

Steve... yes.. I knew about the T/A internal stops.

Peter... thanks for the info.

T/Anks to both of you!

I installed the large sector version a couple months ago and have been very pleased with the results. Really, it feels like rack and pinion. The only installation issue I had with the kit itself was the seal retaining clip for the slop joint. You can't quite get it to bend correctly to hold the seal in place; this was solved just by reusing the stock retaining clip.

The box was well worth the price and made one of the largest day/night differences in how my car drives.

That is how I would describe mine. Steering is now a non-issue, probably end up taking it for granted now lol.

Peter i bought the borgenson kit from you when you started selling them so i guess it is the 1st version. I bought it for a 70 B Body so i gather it is small sector. I haven't installed it yet.
Were there problems with these boxes, is there something i can check

Thanks
