Hey guys,
progress is slow on the valiant and with the season starting soon i'm thinking about picking up a challenger instead of rushing to get the car done.
I've found a 14 r/t 6spd and a couple 09/10 srt8s in the same price range. Unfortunately both the srts i've found are autos. For autox and club track days am i going to regret the r/t over holding out for a manual srt or even getting an auto srt? Probably only thing i will do to the car is a good set of tires. Need to fix the driver before i worry about the car. Really wish i could swing a new scat pack. They just got a blue shaker in at the dealer next door...

The SRT is more stiffly sprung and has better brakes too.
So unless you want to do a lot parts swapping ,$$$, the SRT is the best choice.Much faster too.
The Miata may be quick around the cones , but would you want to be seen in one?

You can get a Mopar TCM and a Tranzformer controller for that thing and you will not think you need the 6 spd. Also conversion kits out there for wheel mounted paddle shifter from an AMG Benz.

I thought they came with paddle shifters or is that only the 15s? Guess I never looked. I wasn't a fan of paddles on my outback at the autocross. They would probably be fine on the road course tho.

For pylon autocrossing, you seldom ever want to be shifting gears... too upsetting with the smoothness required, etc.... just keep it in 1st or 2nd (maybe 2-3) through most of the courses, pending your final rear gearing, and the rpm range you have for your engine and the length/speed of the pylon course. For a road course/track (1-2+ miles in length), and wider MPH ranges, shifting is more required.. 2-3-4-3-2-3-4, etc, again, pending your rear gearing and rpm range.

paddles on a 2.5 cvt subaru outback was not pretty! I think i hit the wipers more than the upshift paddle...lol. The course flowed well and i either ended up bouncing the car off the limiter or bogging in second. Also found out that the traction control turned itself back on if it felt it was needed. Evidently the safety steward was not impressed with the body roll either and told me not to come back with it. I was having fun while it lasted...

Talk about body roll. How about a 1979 Dodge D-50 Sport - a little pickup - with that BIG over size, camper looking, canopy.
Had fun with it and it was ok. Nobody told me it leaned too much.

The Tranzformer converts the cruise up and down buttons to paddles also. Found the link for the 2010 and older:

I'd think either would be...not so great for Auto-X. They are very big and heavy...fun sure but if you are trying to win something a smaller car would be better and probably 1/3rd of the cost.
AND if you have an auto and it works correctly there's no need to manually shift it. W/ a programmer you can make it do whatever you like. I messed around w/ the shift points and whatnot in my old Magnum R/T... worked great.

Not overly concerned about winning. I will run it locally in cam class, I don't think it will fare well in fs. This is more about having fun at the track and strip while i collect parts to finish the valiant. I had decided against getting one til they called and said a b5 stick low option model came in. Love at first sight. ..

Isn't autocross all about having fun? Sure winning is nice. Sometimes it doesn't matter what you drive, if you're a good driver you'll do well. I just went to my second autocross event this past weekend. I did pretty bad for my first 3 sets (3 runs a piece). I was over aggressive which resulted in me being very squirly and destroying many cones. My last set of runs, I slowed down a bit, kept the car controlled, and knocked a second and a half off of my time. It was fun just improving and trying to beat myself.

I used to have a reputation for being a bit of a kamikaze on course. Amazing how much faster i was after i calmed down and quit beating the heck out of my equipment.

I have a brother in law that takes autox so serious he drives me away with his antics. Hes actually a pretty good driver but he always complains about the other drivers. But now with the new CAM class I want to get in on the fun. So drive what you want and don't worry how competitive the car is. As long as your enjoying it.
