RaceRender / TrackAddict - 03/03/15 11:33 PM

Couldn't find many topics about this cool piece of software on Moparts so I decided to start one and see who's using it and what your findings are.

For those unaware of what it is, in short;
TrackAddict is an app for your iOS/Android smartphone and can record video and telemetry data like GPS-location, speed and G-forces for example during the run.

RaceRender is software that runs on your regular computer with which you can import TrackAddict data and create dashboard-like overlays on the recorded footage. The endresult can be exported to a video which can then be put on YouTube. The free version can export upto 3 minutes of footage into a video. The paid version is unlimited.

I've had the TrackAddict app on my iPhone for a while but just recently did some testing with it along with the free edition of RaceRender.

Could you post the link to the product website?

I use Harry's Lap Timer and Race Render along with an external 'dual xgps160' 10 hz gps.

Harry's lap timer:

Race Render AND Track Addict:

Currently my 'best' video has gps and accelerometer data. Skip ahead to 2:40 - no data is on the screen prior to the first recorded lap starting. Not the greatest run.

I have since purchased a bluetooth connector for my megasquirt and a nexus 7 tablet. That should log all engine data, which can be married up in racerender with Harry's data.

Here is what I like about Harry's - this data is all on the phone and viewable between sessions.

Red is the 'reference' lap - my best lap. Gray is the 'selected' lap that I'm viewing data on. You can zoom in on certain parts of the data and it shows you what part of the track the data came from.

You really need the external GPS to get good data - 897 'fixes' with external 10hz gps vs 129 'fixes' with iphone 1hz gps (on a single lap - both 2:06 laps).

I 'zoomed in' on turn 1 to turn 2. As you can see, I'm leaving some time on the table in turn 1 especially. This is a good visual tool to see that with.

IMO - the thing 'lacking' is a chart showing total acceleration (g). And there isn't a way to show braking G's on the colored 'Map'. It only shows lateral acceleration.

That stuff is neat, it would be awesome if you could overlay it with another car or a different lap with your own car to see where improvements could be made.

You can on the charts. That's the red vs gray. It also charts the time differential. You can pick whatever reference lap you want I believe.

I have played with it once. I pulled data log info from my MS3X and overlay-ed it on a video. Just playing around with it.

Fun stuff!
