T56 and T56 Magnum oil pump - 01/17/15 10:33 PM

Been thinking again, this isn't always great and adds even more time to my build, and I think im gonna put a sprayer and pump on my T56. Seems like a good insurance policy for their lifespan. Upon hard excelleration, ROAD RACING, Standing mile stuff etc., as you could imagine all the oil goes to the rear of trans and starves the input bearing and 4th gear/counter shaft bearings. This creates heat in the trans and eventual failure. Even 9 sec. cars have experienced this phenomena in that short of a time span. A simple scavenge pump sucking from the drain hole and spraying at the input bearing, which as a result will also oil the 4th gear, is a good add on and the circulation alone doesn't keep it cool enough I can add a cooler later. I think I will have the pump come on and stay at or above 4000 rpm.

I've pondered about this as well. I know Tick Performance does this mod on the upgrades they sell for T56's.
You have to add your own pump but it shouldn't be difficult to plumb.

Why not for very little extra effort include at least the simplest cooler?

I hear ya, the thinking is that with the pump the temp issue is also remedied.

If I added a pump to my T56, I would also add a cooler.
No harm in over cooling a transmission.

My only concern is just more S$$$ under my car lol. I will already have around 10-12 Relays worth of electronic gadgetry whats more plumbing right?

I can do back to back runs down the track, and my trans temp will barely move. but, If I'm cruising down the highway at 75mph in 6th gear, my temps will increase rapidly. I've seen 220 degrees on mine. makes me nervous, but everyone I've talked to says that 250 is the danger point, and not to sweat seeing 220.

I know there's a lot of plastic in the trans though, and plastic does not like heat. (needle bearing cages, thrust washers, etc. made from plastic)

I would expect to see peak efficiencies at higher temps. A thermostat inline may not be a bad idea to ensure the oil stays warm enough on cold days to properly lube the trans.

... and expell any water/moisture in the transmission.
