Steering Coupler Question.... - 11/27/14 10:54 PM
I am making a switch from power to manual steering on my '70 Satellite. I got a manual steering shaft, and have heard that I will also need a manual steering coupler, which I believe is the small box-like doodad at the bottom of the shaft. Is this correct? I'd hate to put it all together only to find out it doesn't fit.
Thanks!

Yes, you'll need a manual steering coupler so that your shaft will have a set of splines to engage the steering box. I'd show you a picture of what a coupler looks like, but mine is a pretty bad example.

Thanks for the info - and so quickly!
I had a look at mine, and have now figured out that the hole with the splines in it is smaller for the power steering unit that it is for the manual one... or, at least, that's my guess, since mine won't fit onto my manual steering box.

You know what, if you already have a power steering column, just purchase this adapter. It connects a PS column to a manual steering box. FirmFeel is a great company to do business with too.

With the column adapter you still need the manual coupler. They are available new on ebay.

I have the ffi adapter..its large spline to large spline. Check your male and female connections if they are the same size you need the manual coupler.

Well, I have the manual shaft, so I'll just get the coupler. As a matter of fact, I'm going to spring for both the coupler and the rebuild kit, while I'm at it. Might as well do it properly.
Thanks for all the help, everyone!
