Very cool. I'm halfway through the read. I've actually saw honeycomb in action back in my SAE days. The Formula team used it as their impact absorber. There's was about 8" tall though. I actually have a small project at work where I'm going to use honeycomb to absorb a potential impact (calcs are actually relatively easy).

To be honest, recently, I've thought about making carbon fiber/honeycomb parts for my Dart after I graduate and have more free time and money. A very small part of it would be for weight savings, but it will mostly be a "can I do it?" type of project. I was mostly thinking along the lines of bolt on body panels (hood, trunk, bumpers, quarter panels, etc.)
