Chrysler North Assembly Plant Fenton Mo - 01/08/11 04:26 PM

Well I started a post on the South Chrysler Assembly Plant being torn down. https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/show...part=1&vc=1
This is a post on the removal of the North Assembly Plant.

The North plant assembled over a million Dodge Rams.

http://www.autospectator.com/cars/chrysl...llionth-dodge-r

The plant was closed for good in early July 2009.
Chrysler has implemented an early idling of the St. Louis North assembly plant. With this change, the Dodge Ram 1500 Regular Cab, which was previously built at St. Louis, will now be built at Saltillo, starting with the 2010 model.

Lets see some Rams that were built at the north plant.

I will be posting some pictures of the progress.

This stuff was not there last week. The cat looks like it was digging a large enough hole to get to the sewer/ water lines. The air handlers on the roof now are marked with large numbers, like the south plant had. There is jersey barrier blocking the north most parking lot.

Re: Chrysler North Assembly Plant Fenton Mo - 01/16/11 03:31 AM

The 2009 Dodge Ram pickup truck was built at two Chrysler manufacturing facilities in the United States, St. Louis North (Fenton, Missouri) and Warren, Michigan; 2009 Dodge Ram Crew 1500 crew cab and Quad Cab® pickups will be built at Warren Truck. Ram standard cab and Quad Cab pickups were built at St. Louis North until 2009, when the plant was shut down. RamBox production moved at that time from St. Louis to Warren.

With over a $400 million combined investment at the two assembly plants, each facility underwent extensive upgrades. Enhanced processes and new technology will also benefit future product launches and product variants due to the greater levels of flexibility.

In St. Louis North (closed in summer 2009), the body shop was completely rebuilt, with the addition of 210 new robots and more than one mile of new conveyor, including an extensive use of clean, quiet, friction-drive conveyance systems.

The Warren Assembly Plant added a 200,000-square-foot body shop with new automation, including 270 new robots, several new conveyors and use of a fast, quiet pallet conveyance system. In both facilities, the trim, chassis and final areas implemented a new sun roof installation process as well as modifications to the seat delivery system.

This was what was in the hole. I believe it was the water supply line from the treatment plant.

That's what happened to the property at the former plant in Newark Delaware.

I haven't heard of any potential buyers for the Saint Louis/Fenton property at this point.

Last year, the federal government announced a $1.6 million dollar grant to help the city, state, and county pay for the marketing plan.

Where is this money going?

I hope that My taxes aren't paying for the demo.

Smity2 posted these pictures of the truck plant on the south plant page. He writes: I was apart of a cummins tour in late july of 96. I took a few pics, and pretty much lagged behind in our group so they lost track of us. At that point we made our own tour. It was really hard to get to the upstairs paint booth though. I went by the North Plant last week to take a look and see what they had done.

They had started tearing down the outer walls of the 9190 Department, where they processed vehicles for shipping.

The whole complex looks soooo different now that the South Plant is gone.

Re: Chrysler North Assembly Plant Fenton Mo - 04/18/11 05:54 PM

We went by there on April 9th and I took some pics.

What's kinda sad id, the area where they started tearing it down was the newest part.
They built the new "metal shop dept" in about 2001 at a cost of around $400,000,000 IIRC.

Soon all that will be left will be a large concrete slab, that and the steel piers set deep in the ground with 12 yard of concrete around each one.

They're cleaning up what's easy to remove and sell off as scrap and leaving the hard part for someone else to deal with.

I told him if it was then it would be blocked off or fenced, like everything else. Need less to say my charm and good looks got me out smoothed out the situation. Well don't let my run in stop YOU from seeing MCM progress. They are half way through the plant. And they have some new signage that can see from space. My guess is that they are going to use google earth to help advertise the empty plot of land.

This is the final dis-assembly of an assembly plant.

That's an "as built" shop drawing for the paint room done by Midwest Conveyor (subcontractor), apparently the addition was done in 1986? Left behind because it's worthless now? As builts are rarely referenced unless an addition is being planned anyway, otherwise they're just taking up space as "too important to throw away" documents.

Saint Louis North was the home of minivan production from 1987 through 1995, when it was converted to build the Dodge Ram pickup truck. Production at the North plant was shut down, along with other Chrysler factories, when the company filed for bankruptcy on 30 April 2009. Although production briefly resumed the last week of June 2009,the plant was later closed for good in early July 2009.

I got some info about the site this morning.
We should be looking for a major news announcement after the plant is demolished.
That will be around the 4th of July.
Well, I'll just tell ya what I have heard.
You heard it first on moparts.
The site is going to be developed in to several manufacturing companies. The being a solar panel production company. The will employ about 1500 people.
The water tower may or may not fall. My guess is it will fall and on the 4th of July.
I also might have some pictures of the deserted north plant before the demo.

FENTON, Mo. (KMOV) – The mayor of Fenton is requesting that the city’s portion of unused money intended to qualify for a federal grant for the site of the former Chrysler plant in Fenton to be returned to the city.

St. Louis County, the city of Fenton and the state of Missouri contributed $2 million that was used to qualify for a grant to create a marketing plan for the former Chrysler plant site.

Fenton Mayor Dennis Hancock is asking for $81,000 back from the $131,000 that the city contributed for the grant that went unused. The Fenton Board of Alderman recently passed a preliminary resolution to withdraw from the partnership with St. Louis County on the project.

Mayor Hancock says he would use the extra money to give city employees raises and believes St. Louis County is trying to spend the extra money on regional projects.

Douglas Rasmussen, of the St. Louis County Economic Council, says the regional projects will benefit the city of Fenton because the council wants to attract international markets that could import and export from the site.
