Re: 69 DAYTONA LIST PER STATE TOTALS - 11/01/03 03:45 AM

it shows that there was only 1 daytona shipped to Idaho...when I was in junior high,('83 or 84)I rode the school bus, and every day it would drive past a '69 daytona sitting by a house with a tarp over the roof. the nose was gone, but the wing and special backglass were visible...I later heard that it ended up in Oregon sometime in the late 80s or early 90s...I wonder if this was THE sole Idaho daytona???

Don't mind that car next to it. Just a 70 AAR Cuda.

I am not so sure about PA getting only one hemi Daytona. Do you have any info on the car? I am positive my grandfather sold a red one brand new. They did get a lot of cars from philadelphia and I think there was a "distribution lot" in PA as well. In 68 they were sending employees down to philly to meet the demand for roadrunners. Several guys drove down in a hauler, and once loaded, the extra 2 or 3 guys would each drive back an additional car.

The list provided provides serial number job number dealership number dealer location and date shipped. And these cars where traded from dealer to dealer somtimes may explain the amounts on the lot.But I think this was the last segment of daytona shipments the club featured as to date Car in PA I show was sold at JZ motors in Ambler PA XX29J9B412548.Was at one time owned by Otis Chandler aquired from D Klump of PA by Greg Joseph.Restored by R Gibson and is a bronze 5000 mile 4 speed hemi car.last owner was Kevin Greene of NC Panthers.I havent heard where it might be currently

Re: 69 DAYTONA LIST PER STATE TOTALS - 11/01/03 06:20 AM

The numbers are from the list with verified dealers and vins.Post what Chrysler historical has for there numbers. And do they have the dealer and vin list also to accompany the vins. They may be still using this 433 440 daytona combo of 294 AT 440 and 139 4 Speed to get the 433 total. And 426 48 AT 22 4SPD=70.For the 503 number. And the Canada adds another 50 cars I believe to the U.S.numbers.To total 553.The Canada 50 is 45 440 and 5 426.Add the additional 45 to 440 US production to make it 478.And 5 additional 426 to the current production 75 total is (478 440 US-CAN( (75 US-CAN 426).(553)

As to Magnum production I wouldnt know. You might try a Magnum registry. There used to be a vendor that used a computer source . You send in your kind of car and get.a letter back saying this many made and this many left of your type car. Most of my info is from membership winged Warriors and National B Body owners association

Re: 69 DAYTONA LIST PER STATE TOTALS - 11/01/03 06:38 AM

As for the 50 Canadian cars that is the number of cars that Chrysler Historical had told me I did not ask for any dealership numbers that Chrysler alotted to the dealers and did not ask for any kind of break down per Province or Territory.I did ask them how many hemi cars came to Canada and I also asked them how many Superbirds came to Canada and what the break down of what motors came in the cars.

Wingcars,
on my way to the race track, about 500 feet off the highway lurking in a carport is a 440/auto black w/a white stripe just sitting. kind of reminded me seeing the blue one in your sig. every year they try to cover and hide it more but it's pretty hard to hide one of them.
it's a shame nobody does anything with it

Twenty years ago there was one, Superbird sitting outside waiting for restoration by it's owner, like that over here by my house. Actually it was a few miles away. It was in County territory down a dirt road. It was a 440/4 barrel/4 speed. The guy lived in what was the smallest house I'd ever seen. It was one story tall and was about 5'x8'. It had a sliding glass door, one window and it was on skids. When my friend, who told me about this Superbird, and I drove up to look at it there was a chicken standing on the roof of it. The guy said he was going to restore it someday and that he'd never sell it. I never went back to check on it. Now that whole area has been redone with a paved road and all new apartment buildings. I don't have the VIN, but I do have some old pictures of it somewhere.

Got to wonder how ugly that would look, or what it would've done to the air flow if they had to be used on a track. I know a lot of people comment on the big, ugly, bumper at the front of the Prowler.

Re: 69 NEW DAYTONA LIST PER STATE TOTALS - 11/01/03 07:13 PM

Thanks Chris for MM article.I always heard from older wing club newsletter sources it was 440-4SPD-US-139 440-AT-294-US.For 433 + 70-426 48 AT-22-4SPEED=70.To the 503 US number. Canada not included. The 503 with 50 additional Canada 45 440 + 5 426=50 is 553.But who knows exactly they cheated on the 69 charger 500 count by running cars past nascar inspectors twice and made 392.And not 500 required.I think the daytona total is around 505 and maybe a few over then that. But the 503 number has stood the test of time. And earlier post by HEMICAR1971 collborates the 50 Canada cars by the Chrysler Historical as his source. And were at 553 again but who know if more car will surface to change it.And superbirds are numbers from 1920-1935.The vermont car is #73 XX29L9B390010 C.H GOSS CO BURLINGTON VT

Would have to think Milwaukee would have been involved with a wing car somewhere along the line?

Re: 69 NEW DAYTONA LIST PER STATE TOTALS - 11/03/03 05:22 PM

Hmm...1 for Montana. A guy my dad knew in HS/college had Daytona. It was red with a white stripe/wing and had a 440. I can't remember what he said it had for a tranny, but I'm pretty sure he said it was an auto. I'm not sure if he bought it in MT or if he got it in another state, but it was rolled not long after he had it and his insurance totalled it...probably junked and crushed.

I'll have to ask him about it again, he'll probably remember more of the details about it since he rode in it a few times.

Wingcar, cool stuff. Was one of the CT cars from Cavallaro Dodge in Ansonia? I have a good friend who worked there in the early seventies. Says the owner's son had a Daytona for years, automatic 440. He may still have it. The car was either a white car paint gold or gold painted white, can't actually remember. Where was the other CT Daytona sold? Thanks for the info.

Re: 69 NEW DAYTONA LIST PER STATE TOTALS - 11/03/03 07:12 PM

Unfortunately, one of the Daytonas that made it to Arkansas was wrecked in the early '70s. It was a 440 car.
The 2nd guy who owned it was an over zealous cop in Jacksonville and was off duty one day when he heard about a local bank robbery. He was in the Daytona and took off after the robbers, who were in a pickup. They got up on the highway and the truck forced the Daytona off the road and into the ditch.
The car was wiped out. The guy survived.

Re: 69 NEW DAYTONA LIST PER STATE TOTALS - 11/04/03 04:50 PM

69HemiGTX, actually the body of the Daytona had been returned to stock by the owner's son. The flares are long gone and the nose grille opening has been returned to the stock size. One thing the owner's son didn't do though was paint it back to it's original Hemi Orange. He liked '98 Ford Taurus Moonlight Blue so that's what color he shot it! Actually, if the fender flares were still on it and the gille opening was still enlarged and it still had the aircraft landing lights and the big weenies out back, I'm pretty sure I'd leave it just that way. You just don't see any period custom Daytonas anymore!

Cool stuff, WingCars. We received 3 here in Iowa - woo hoo. I just called my friend whose father worked for Sanders Motors in Newton and he said that Sanders did not get a Daytona.

He did say they got one Superbird though. Orange 440, 4-speed, black interior. Steve's dad kept it in the garage at their house and Steve used to sneak out to the garage and start the car up from time to time. Steve saw the car a few years later in a garage in Columbus Junction, Iowa - still had the Sanders Motors decal on the trunk deck.

Yeah, I figured it was probably either sold in Great Falls or in Missoula. My dad said that dealership and one in Missoula used to have the largest inventories of performance Mopars in MT that he was aware of. I wouldn't know since I wasn't born yet.

Anyhow, I talked to my dad last night about his friend's Daytona. It wasn't bought in MT. He got it brand new in California (not sure where though) when he returned from the Navy. It was red with a white wing and a 440 auto car. Sadly, it was completely destroyed when it got rolled. My dad said it was mangled pretty good, and was most likely crushed afterwards. My dad wasn't in it when it rolled though thankfully.

Re: 69 NEW DAYTONA LIST PER STATE TOTALS - 11/05/03 07:27 AM

Hi, I'm chiming in a little late, but none the less...

#1) The Idaho car interests me. I'm only 19 and my dad has always told me about a '69 Hemi Daytona he looked at buying brand new. We live in Spokane, WA. This car was red or hemi orange with a tan vinyl roof and tan interior. He said the car was originally shipped to Lewiston Idaho for sale, but it didn't sell down there so they shipped it up to Spokane where he looked at it, but didn't buy it. Not sure where that car is now?? And the Hemi thing makes me wonder since the Lewiston car is supposedly an "L" code car (440).

#2) So do you have any Daytonas shipped to Spokane? Hollenback Motors or Dishman Dodge?

#3) I know where the '69 Hemi Daytona sits that was sold new in Columbus Ohio. Red with a black interior. Currently in perfect shape, in a garage, up on blocks, 15K original miles.

#4) I'm still kind of lost on the hemi Daytona production numbers. Some sources say 70 Hemi Daytonas were shipped new to the US but you only have 36 shipped to US dealers??

As the #385 daytona shipment list has been updated to 501 verified vins. The highest 69 daytona vin I saw for a daytona is XX29L9B-(414)******.The article in Oct 79 by both wingcar clubs. Had stated 69 daytona having vins from XX29*B280000-(480000).69 charger 500s from 10000-260000 and superbirds from 140000-182000.And this current list has vins for only 36 hemi daytona US and Canada .But 70 is the given number.

I wonder if anyone who worked at Creative Industries would have recorded any VIN numbers down? Or maybe they just modified the cars and didn't keep track of them?

The list referred to here IS the Creative Industries list. We know the cars were shipped from there. The list is referred to as the "Daytona Shipments List", with VINs, original selling dealer and special order number.

Dave, you mentioned John's car being #491. does that mean it was one of the last one's to roll out of Creative Industries?

The list ends at 501.But his car had no destination dealer.car#491 Dodge executive garage Hamtramck MI.So it may have been used by a higher up at chrysler used and sold it later.I got a copy of that cars buildsheet to document all those options. Also found in 81 at 35K miles car was owned by Steve Sunderland PA
