Gary, as long as I can "pill it up", your on. Houser would not let me do it at Indy.. Put your Hemi in and come help with the show.

And a repost for this years thread.

No Problem Raceway (NPR) and Division Four (D4) Good Guys are pleased to announce the Inaugural Tim Hebert Hemi “Chootout” to be contested during the Cajun Sports Nationals March 21-23, 2014 in Belle Rose, La. Tim Hebert was a long time NHRA D4 racer who passed away suddenly at age 53 on June 2, 2013 after participating in the NHRA Englishtown National Event. His orange and white 1968 Barracuda has been seen at NHRA and Hemi Shootout events throughout the United States for decades and will be participating in the inaugural “Chootout” with his son Rory at the wheel. Qualifying for the $12,000 cash purse and other prizes will be on Friday with “Chootout” on Saturday, March 22. Check event flyer for exact times. D4 Good Guys: Southland Dodge (Joe Teuton), Steve Kent Services (Steve Kent), Paillot Bros. Construction (Joe & Jerry Paillot), Engines Inc (Lloyd Wofford), Henson Family Dealerships (Fred Henson), 3001 (Stephen Hebert) and NPR are proud sponsors of the first event. “If you have a Hemi car or enjoy watching Hemi cars, be at NPR and participate in the celebration of Tim’s racing accomplishments,” said long time Southland Dodge teammate Lil’ Joe Tueton. Over twenty entries are estimated.

We had your wires on for the Dutch, so they sat in the rain for three days. Looks like I got a grade point though. We tested today and had great results. I plan on them being used 35 days from now. Slushbox-less!!!

Hopefully the SS/AA guys will realize what the Top Fuel guys tested and found out 5 years ago ! Wires DO make a difference. thanks for the opportunity. It's in the books. Congrats to Charlie and Joe in the finals and CWJ's win. Had to run in the dark as NHRA wanted us to get it in on Friday due to possible weather. Glad I timed out, daytime for me only. A lot of fans showed up on Sat for the Chootout but got to watch some good SS racing anyway. Thanks to NPR and the D4 Good Guys for the purse and cookout. I think everyone had fun. Special thanks to Fascat and Frito who worked tirelessly, everyone left with a bunch of goodies. Frito is to post a vendor list, please do business with the supporters when you can. Finally, it was great to see Rory running his Dad's car. Check Hemishootout.net for pics. Thanks

Re: Tim Hebert Chootout - 04/03/14 12:02 PM

Folks, a list of sponsors for the race. Support them when you can. Here his Frito's email.........

Guys, this is a little long winded but please bare with me and read to the end.

First of all I would like to thank all of you for bringing your cars out for fans like me to enjoy. Next I would like to share the door prize info with you all. I have heard back from some racers and even some sponsors about the feed back they have gotten from the racers and I would like to thank all that have contacted them. If you have not, a short e mail or even a phone call, as some have done, has had a big impact. A few left me hanging but most came through.

The 'goodie" bags were not all the same but all had a California Car Duster, Golden Shine Wax, California Car Cover detail towels, Superformance carb gaskets. Grime Boss wipes. Some had tee shirts, Fire core tee shirts, fire extinguishers, metal polish, Joe Gibbs speed cleaner, Chrysler Power tee shirts, A&A transmission tee shirts, as well as some other stuff I didn't see as I didn't pack the bags. The grand prize of a California Car Cover was won by no other than Steve & Chuckie Comella. Barnett Performance $100. gift cards were won by Lloyd Wofford and ' Joe Tueton, LAT oil by Stephen Hebert, Joe Gibbs/Driven oil by Freddie Henson, Fire Core Wires by Dan Zrust and Steve Comella. Jerry Hass jacket by Larry Perkins, Portatree pocket practice tree by Russ Campbell, $50 A&A transmission gift card by Cleve Stewart. The certificates were done by Dan Williams. There was some more stuff but due to the race being moved up to Friday night and throwing a wrench in the cookout I wasn't able to write down the other stuff and I am sure I have left some out. Fascat had fixed up more gumbo than an army could eat and enough crawfish pies for every one. He needs to be complemented on his $$ and effort he put into the cookout that never happened. I guess they ate big at Kent's place Saturday as Fascat donated it to the big cookout. Also Chrysler Power has expressed interest in doing some articles on some of your cars.

Here is the list of sponsors that came through in the end, please let them know it was appreciated. The list that was handed out at the track had a couple of wrong e mails, one for sure I know of was superformance gaskets. It should have been info@superformanceproducts.com The ones that came through are,

California Car Cover, Jimmy DeFrank, Jimmy@calcarver.com 800 423 5525
Firecore Wires, Rich Gorski, sales@customwiresets.com 866 973 9473
Superformance Gaskets, Greg Travis, info@superformanceproducts.com 866 925 7855
Barnett Performance, Warren/Glenn Barnett, glen@BHI-1.com 800 533 1320
Joe Gibbs/Driven Oil, Scott Diehl, sdiehl@JoeGibbsRacing.com 704 293 5539
Fireade, Pam Bozek, PamB@fireade.com 777 460 7793
A&A Transmissions, Rick Allison, rallison@aandatrans.com 317 921 3066
Grime Boss, Diane Powell, dpowell@pdipdi.com 508 278 2499 ex 503
Chrysler Power Magizine, Roland Osborne, roland@chryslerpower.com 888 548 2282
Portatree, Sue & Al Symth, sue@portatree.com 508 278 2499 ex 503
Randy Mans Fastshocks, Randy Mans, 612 306 5387
Flitz Metal Polish, Regina, regina@flitz.com 262 534 5898
Dan Williams Design, Dan Williams, dan@danwilliamsdesign.com 612 344 1783

I am sure I left out some people and products and I am sorry if I did. Moving the race up to Friday night had me get in a hurry to get the goodie bags and stuff passed out but I am thankful for all the support.

Good luck in your racing the rest of the year and I hope to see all of you again this year.

Sincerely,
Rick Lakin aka "frito"

Vegas Baby!!!!

I heard that Mccallum and Keyes were coming also. We dont have alot of money yet, but there is free entry, I put 1K cash into the purse, and 131 gave 500. Plus Jesel is paying 1K to win, 500 r/u. The belle rose race was basically banked by Sled, Kent, and Woffard I think. I dont have anyone volunteering yet, so If its just a small race for fun, thats ok also.

Re: Class in Houston - 04/27/14 02:50 PM

Every time one of us ran yesterday the announcer would proclaim National Hemi Day as the date was 4/26. He also said Mopar had a clip on it on their website. Pretty neat! Got a pic of David Reher standing by the RMRE tribute car. Speaking of pics, a lot were taken of that thing.

Charlie can you, or can you have somebody, post the results, as this thread has been kind of dead lately?

The two camo cars and Gus Mantus(sp?)

I only saw CW-Jr/Sr make passes. They did a best two out of three deal. I believe the best run was CW-Jr with a 8.37, but I didn't see there last pair of passes.

Very cool to see the hemi's at Martin. Awesome machines.

Mantis put his around on the big end Sat night on a cool track. He said it was a case of radial tire shake when he hit the brakes to slow down. Car spun around but avoided the wall. Cool car, real nice owner. Went 75 on that pass. Was looking at brake bias.

Re: LODRS at Grove - 05/28/14 03:53 AM

Does anybody know who was driving in the other lane? Also, I saw Wendall Howes was driving a '68 Barracuda in SS/IA. Could that have been Wendall in the other Barracuda, or does anyone have pictures of the Barracuda that Wendall was driving, if this white and blue one wasn't it? I know Wendall usually is running an AH car.
Thanks in advance for somebody knowing the answer to these questions.

Dale Also spoke with me at Charlotte about the goodie bags and prizes at Belle Rose and how much the racers appreciated the door prizes. We discussed goodie bags and a payout down to 16 cars at Indy but I was reluctant to mention it on here for fear that it wouldn't happen. But it looks like it official. Mopar will stretch it's payout $$$$ to 16 cars this year. A few racers have told me they like the winner/runner up take all but I do think this will bring a few more cars out to the race. Also the plan for the poster this year will include as many as possible of the cars that are pre entered at the time of the printing. Just a fans point of view

Does it look like the front end in drooped down in the front like the old PS cars were in the early 1970s? Compare to a stock 1968 Barracuda in the sale ads.

Re: Mega Mopar at the Grove - 06/23/14 11:23 AM

No- the Front End is not drooped. It may appear that way in the pic, but I was studying the mounting of that nose on Buckys car all day Sunday and can tell you it is as factory repro as it gets.

That nose came from Cynergy Composites and the mold was made off a stock fender. I talked with Tim up there a lot as that nose was originally for my car, but out of necessity , Beautiful Stuff....

And a Big Congrats to Gary Wolkwitz with his Hemi Shootout Victory! Well deserved as he drove his a$$ off in a well earned victory!!! I think he drove 1340' as the track surface was a little...

As the world turns - 07/14/14 09:20 PM

Maybe should start thinking about Indy. Stir it up a little. ESPN announcers talked about fist fighting the whole time the Red Team was whippin' on me.

My guess for show up is the following:

The Gar cars; Jr & Sr
Transplanted Island car
The Red team!
Gulf Coast Hemis featuring Two Scoop
Three Amigos (was four)
Cake
Book
Mule
Gold Tooth I mean Coast
Flood Plain Dart
Sled (yours truly)
Truck guys (two of those; a North dude and a South dude, both with GM help)
Northern light Hemis
That paint dude
John Deere motor dude
Confucius (But he may have his new BLING horse there)????

Need some more from West coast, lawyer and med salesman. 30 cars would be GREAT

Translations performed for a FEE $$$$ Let's see your guesses.....

Add the Tenn. policeman to the mix. He's got two grade points now and will be at Bowling Green, that should get him in. The lawyer and his bros are bringing the Hemi and their stockers. Grade points are an issue for at least two others. Cutting the field from 180 to 160 is going to hurt for sure.

Twas' a month (ish) before Indy - 07/18/14 04:35 AM

In the Mopar shop getting ready for Indy. Hood shown is Boyd's GO Tracker with (2) 412 SBC's in comp. First Tracker in the 2's!!!!

Dog is Tootsie Roll who showed up here as a stray. Half Lab, half Winnie dog. Net and pulley gig according to vet. Turns out this dog is an EXCELLENT head porter and has been in direct consultation with Darin Morgan at RMRE. However, she has watched the ESPN3 replay of Houser (Red team) Spyphish USNATS final every night and combined with her Garfish doghouse wallpaper has a serious anger management issue. You can see it in her eyes!!! She will be on Dog Whisperer for help next month.

Re: Twas' a month (ish) before Indy - 07/30/14 05:22 PM

25 plus for sure. Some guys who haven't run their cars in the Indy Challenge before, Welker, Stewart, Daily should be there. Al Smyth has a motor being built at a well known shop but doubtful it will be ready. Grade points may be an issue for a couple. Looks like one usual runner will bail to go for the best engineered/best appearing bling award in another class. (and he should get it, car is over the top) I still think cutting the entries from 180 to 160 might cost a couple of cars.

The weather would have to be perfect to see those numbers at Indy. I'm thinking mid 40's to win, 60's to go rounds. Hopefully, we can get the top 5 cars within 5-7 hundredths of each other.

RMRE worked directly with NHRA tech in the development of our new heads. Here is written guidance from NHRA which we will have on board next week.

"Stephen,

I am not sure if we will have a written " stake in the ground rule " but we will have some clear, plain language for a tech inspector to use as they police this Super Stock cylinder head rule. The valve cover gasket will have to seal to the valve cover rail, not the intake or plate, using 10 bolts in there original location. No spacers."

Re: As the world turns - 08/20/14 11:02 AM

Decisions, decisions the Spyphish will make,
how many of his army should he take.

Charlie and Ray's versions both seen the war,
but RMRE has big powder in the bore,

Always looking for spark to light that bore,
the secret to that just might be Firecore.

NHRA will be checking all the racers,
looking at scoops and cyl head spacers.

The heads must be free of "external modification"
or the ones involved will take a vacation.

Parts and pistons should be free of all coating,
or next year they will spend 6 months boating.

Black Arrow has Perkins on the dyno as we speak,
working overtime to get ready, got less than a week.

David's ride was gone and he was feeling blue,
but who should come thru, but Teuton #2

Willie is entered again, which way did he go,
I hope this year he's not a "no show".

After a 4 year hiatus the Silver Bullet is back,
King of Sales is drivin but his crewmember's a quack.

The King Cuda just wants to keep from spining,
If he runs like last week he could be winning.
With Norh Carolina power from Mr Line,
and his usual driving he will be fine.

The boys from Toronto have been doing a lot of testing,
blue Cuda lookin good, they are never resting.

The L&K Cuda could get the nod,
if only the engine builder finds a push rod.

Eddies Smith look a like in for the first time,
up the elimination ladder Bogner hopes to climb.

The Gold Coast Hemi's pit is mowed and neat.
the red car's pit has grass knee deep.

Fresh off a win the Earthquake is coming,
the brothers working hard to keep the car huming.

Dr D will be back after fixing a few smiles,
hoping to keep it together and win by a mile.
He will have a lot, going on this year,
Little Jimmy has his own ride, shifting gears.

Sure is good to see the Howes family back,
but it's gettin real hard to keep TWO Hemis on track.
If the forcast is right we might see Mark,
parking the hemi and building an ark.

The Cajun Cuda is making power a ton,
looking good with the drivin of Lil Teuton.

Hope the rain holds off and the water doesn't pool,
wet ground makes the working hard for the Missouri Mule.

The darkhorse is said to be Steve Kent,
with that big cam, hopes the vales aren't bent.

A lot of involvment from engines inc,
pro stock info won't let him sink.

The CW's have been quiet, not saying much,
but still hangin around with power a bunch.
they got a new pole to go phisin with,
think easy catch of the ole sledphish

The Mustang is here but not quite ready to rip,
so the Dart has shown up from the Henson Family Dealership.

Good thing the grass clipping were padding red teams pit,
because their hood took of like a rocket ship.

Smell the food a cooking and there is a lot,
just walk by the pit of team Pailott

I'm glad I found this thread. Dad is usually in the tower announcing. Dad does not use the internet, on any level. I'd love to put together a sheet for him to reference while in the tower. He enjoys announcing at Indy every year. I'd like to inform him as much as possible on the happenings, without introducing drama of course

Initial Public Offering at Indy - 08/22/14 11:28 PM

Breaking news. DynoPhish, LLC will go public during Indy. Dyno and I will allow 10 investors to buy 10 shares at $10,000 each. Those initial investors will have use of the RMRE lawn mower at Indy for no additional charge. FYI It has a three quarter inch cam!!!. Fellow Hemi racers that are not investors will have use of the equipment for a case of beer, except the Red Team. Houser will not be allowed to use the mower and in fact, all grass clippings will be dumped in his pit space. Any other non investor racer may use the equipment for a sixpack. Trreee' for me and trreee for Dan.

Only in America!!!

Beware of misleading sales pitches and fraudulent claims. Photo above indicates a new lawn mower, huckster collects his monies in advance, then produces something of lesser value, as indicated in this photo. Invest at your own risk.

Just saw on classracer that Stephen lost his motor and is done for the weekend. That really is disheartening considering the time they spent developing the motor. Sorry to hear it for Stephen.

There's just something about that hemi in Super Stock that loves carnage. Seems like every year there's a horror story for someone in the class.

Re: SS Round Three Indy - 08/31/14 03:21 PM

Had a great time at the event on Fri. Although it wore me out lol! Rolled into Indy about 9pm Thurs. and was able to find a spot to park the motor home across from gate 6, up a 5am to prepare for the day. We met up with Frito at 8am ( thanks for kind of hosting us between your pit crew obligations Rick) and met some of the SSAH players. Went over to the return road for the parade lap, then to the staging lanes where Frito got us up close and personal with all the entries! Then the rain delay came so back to the motor home for lunch. Then we scurried back for 1st rd. we saw all the rds of SSAH competition and even managed to drag Frito away from his duties to meet up with Clay Milligan and his crew for a short time as they were getting ready for Fri. Nights pro rd. We left at 9pm after 1 of the nitro rails oiled the track down and I got home at 4am 1 tired puppy, complete with blisters to remind me how much ground we covered. We even met up with some Moparts members during the day! I really hope to do it again!

Dynophish LLC mower was big success except we sold no stock and got no beer. (Unless Dyno is holding out on me).

Mother Nature two, Girard electric awnings zero.

One too many banana peels in the Flux Capacitor. But as Tom Hanks says; Pouting! There is no pouting in Hemi racing!!!

Congratulations to all the guys. The closest racing ever since I have been going. Amazing how the NHRA "head" police rearranged the qualifying.

Glad to be home after this one, special thanks to all that rushed to help me in each hourly disaster. Fastcat for the food and Frito for helping him deliver it while I attended the funeral.

LSP, Pancake does own an orginal LO29 Cuda. Neat history, it was orginally purchased by Bob Cavins who lived just a few doors down from Don Bales. (Silver Bullet). Don tells some neat stories of being on the school bus and seeing the car in the garage as they waited on Cavins kid. It then was sold to Bud & Dewey Cook then to the Daily brothers, then Cake. He just had it on display a few weeks ago at the Mopar Nationals.

Good job to all of the guys interviewed in the Competitionplus video. I always wondered why my Hemi Dart was slow. I thought I was a bad mechanic, and a bad driver, but after watching the video, maybe I just didn't have the right person "blowing air in the tires!" That was a classic line, and well worth watching the video. Again, I thought all of you guys that were interviewed did the Hemi group proud! Nice job!

Re: Interview - 10/05/14 05:28 PM

Charlie Jr bought the ford pro stocker pictured above. He is done with SS/AH and moving on to Pro Stock…

While some might be happy about his departure, looking at the big picture- he was very good for the class.

Sad part is I guess CW jr didn't have Hemi in his veins after all...
Posted By: SCATPACK 1

Re: Interview - 10/06/14 12:27 AM

Well that is interesting. Maybe Not very well thought out. Didn'tFord announce last year they were pulling all funny car and Pro sponsorship at the end of this year? Then again the Ford pro stock hemi is just a Dodge prostock Hemi that Larrykept when he went over to the dark side. That Pro Stock Mustang above looks more like an altered or Pro Mod car than a Pro stock car. But, NONE of the cars in Pro Stock look like a real car any more than the funny cars do.

Charlie Jr & Sr - 10/07/14 02:05 AM

I do not think they are completely done with SS/AH. Just trying something else to keep things interesting and like the hemi class, it keeps him motivated.
Posted By: B3422W5

Re: Charlie Jr & Sr - 10/07/14 02:37 AM

Charlie said in that interview he planned on about 5 ish races a season in PS.
That Mustang qualified good bit last year. Forget who the owner of it was.
He has about 7 blocks and 30 heads he bought, most everything that was left.
Smart guy, I wish him and his wallet well.
He didn't say anything about not campaigning in S/S any more. Just that he was skipping the Dutch.
Posted By: SSDAcuda

Re: Charlie Jr & Sr - 10/07/14 12:49 PM

Look at what races Charlie attended this year:
1) Mega Mopars at the Grove- Charlie only
2) Indy- SR And JR
When he was racing this year you could see he lost the flame for the Hemis. I think he tested once all year. He has been playing with that damn ford on the spintron and at Indy it was pretty clear. The pack had caught up and surpassed Sr & Jr's SS/AH cars. Charlie wasnt thinking Hemis- but Pro Stock Ford. I think he even said Saturday this year at Indy him and his Dad Hung around and talked/watched the pro stockers.

Charlie only raced SS/AH for the $hoot-out$. He had said in his radio interview that he was done with Indy. Too much time away from his business. I think he also realizes if he is going to make this Pro-Stock deal work- it will require every spare hour that he's not devoting to Jackson Engine Tech. No extra time and 100% devotion to his Ford.

I am happy for Charlie that he's chasing his dream, BUT I am unhappy for myself as Charlie raised the bar in SS/AH while he was here. You see Spyfish posting above with his "Charlie Who" motor and Bucky with his "ChuckFarlie" Hemi!! As an active Super Stock Hemi racer and a Gen 2 Hemi lover, I want that SS Hemi development to continue...

Just a sad day to wind down the season for SS/AH Hemi racing. Charlie's new love Pro Stock, David B with the Factory (Pro) Stockers. And I know they will both continue with their work on SS Hemis, but as they lay awake in bed at 3am- they most likely won't be thinking about an SS/AH Hemi....

Re: Charlie Jr & Sr - 10/07/14 06:02 PM

I wonder if WC will put a Bowtie on the roof of the Moosetang? I don't think they were ever Hemi guys. If Mopar didn't put up the money for the chootouts, I doubt they would have gotten into it. I think there will be more SS/AH cars if WC leaves as I think a lot of cars got parked when they got tired of throwing money after chasing him. At least one of them parking his Cuda and bought a Moosetang to run in SS. That was probably a lot cheaper to buy it than step up to run the Warguppies.

"Look at what races Charlie attended this year:
1) Mega Mopars at the Grove- Charlie only
2) Indy- SR And JR
When he was racing this year you could see he lost the flame for the Hemis."

I recall Charlie Westcott Jr and Sr showing up at Belle Rose, Louisiana in March also. The quickest two cars at that "ChootOut" were in that one trailer. He had plenty of flame at that event.

Can't believe I just read this .... Lol

You honestly think Charlie worked like a dog and spent 10's of thousands plus the cost of the car to win a measly 10 or 20 grand once a year at Indy.
You have got to be kidding me. The guy probably has more money tied up in one cnc machine at his shop than he has won in his life racing a hemi at Indy.
It's all about being the best at something one chooses to do, the paltry money means next to nothing. Most guys who own these cars are wealthy. 10 grand isn't more than a weeks work. They do it because they can, are competitive people and like the attention the class garners

Congratulations to Gary and Bucky and all the guys for some close racing. Nice to see Bales out. Good team pictures over on Classracer Same day video thread. If we had attended, we would have driven back in that line of weather. Not fun!! Exactly 30 days until wedding so I stayed home and built a fountain with my Dutch money. Fun!!!

Now if I could just learn to check valves and blow air in my tires....

There are only certain times during a National Open or Divisional event when you are allowed to run for a record. You must also claim you are going for the record when you are able to in time trails.

Being that this was in class eliminations records could not be set

I was just kidding! I thought Charlie had a new classic line about a lot of the racer's that show up at Indy for the Hemi Challenge. To paraphrase, he said something like his Dad and He are there to win, where some of the other guys are there more for the BBQ.
Don't anybody take offense, I'm making a joke with this attachment, because I'd be glad just to get there for the BBQ!!! It's a joke for everybody as we head into winter and have "Hemi Shoot Out" withdrawal!

He "talks the talk" BUT "eats the eats"!! Every time anyone cooks, the Garfish gang are there. That's fine as us "checkbook racers" are happy to fellowship. I don't plan on hugging him after the final either. Sewing "Sorry Charlie" on my chute as we type.

I loved the part where he (also paraphrased) is "we do everything ourselves. Most of these guys buy a car, hire someone to build the motor, hire someone to put air in the tires..." F U N N Y ! ! !

I'll be a HUGE fan though, of that red PHORD MOOSTANG. Go, Charlie go!

2015 March Madness - 12/01/14 03:04 PM

Kinda' quite here. So:

March 4th LODRS D4 Houston to test and get a grade point
March 11 NHRA Class in Gainesville
March 18 Hemi Shootout Belle Rose
March 27 Hemi Shootout Vegas MATS

That's a LOT of motors!!!

This pic taken in the shop last night is the Mouton brothers and son building a 67 Coronet with a Pro Stock Hemi 99. This car will run the winner of the Belle Rose and Vegas Shootouts in a grudge match. 1000ish @ 3200 lbs vs 1350ish @ 3600 lbs. Purse TBD but should be interesting. Note the special 75 Crown box on hood scoop. Thanks Andy and Ben...

This was not RMREs fault. We had a two step malfunction an basically had the gas pedal to the floor with the clutch engaged at the starting line. Quite an experience. We now use an ignition simulator each time out. A 1/4 X 20 bolt cost me!

Beautiful day yesterday testing with Chuckwheat motor which is 40 down from Mellon. Mellon will be back home from intensive care in Jan.
Gotta' love the South. Texas Borderline Photography has shots 1082 -1085 on web. We had fogged the motor for the winter so I guess that is all the smoke?? We will leak it today. Have 100 calendars coming to give away, just need address.

NHRA Update - 12/20/14 04:12 AM

No index change for the SS/AH racers next year. When there were 26 cars at Indy and the fastest car qualifies 100th, something needs to be adjusted.

Re: NHRA Update - 12/20/14 04:26 AM

i agree
Posted By: mr_340

Re: NHRA Update - 12/20/14 06:13 AM

I always thought NHRA should keep the 1968 Race Hemi at the 500HP. It's a one engine and one class deal. It should be the standard for power and move everything else relative to that combo. Otherwise, all engines will continue to float higher. I guess it doesn't really matter all that much either way, but I thought there should be one constant in HP factoring.
