Yeah Larry, inquiring minds want to know

My car should be in the low 11s, not sure if I can afford to get a good cage installed til the winter, so I may need to know your secret!

I wondered the same thing...

Re: AWESOME LAR 414!! - 05/13/04 02:19 AM

IHRA tracks allow 11.49... If youre close, which Larry is, typically you'll fly under the radar.

I agree! Great article Larry! You and big Larry must be stoked! Two AWESOME mopars!!!

Re: AWESOME LAR 414!! - 05/13/04 02:23 AM

Thats what I figure also, guess they might not think much about it on test/tune nights, but race day, it wouldn't work!

I know the article said you won't put in a cage, but that may change as you'll probally want to go faster eventually Don't forget, cages are fine for a street car!

Re: AWESOME LAR 414!! - 05/13/04 02:28 AM

It might fly on test and tune, or fart pipe car night when they don't enforce the rules, but not on regular race day.

I want to get mine in because all I have is a 35 year old lap belt holding my fat a$$ in that car. If something happens, I'm gumby!!!

Tigman/572Charger will be doing mine this winter. I have the cage already, but divorce put a hold on that stuff for a while.

Re: AWESOME LAR 414!! - 05/13/04 12:05 PM

Thanks guys. It means a lot to hear it from you guys.

Shhhhhhhh about the roll bar thingy do hicky.

Actually I do race it at a IHRA track so the cut off is 11.49 et. And I race it all out fast on Test and Tune only! Also, most of my runs are usually in the 11.40's. I've dipped into the 11.3's a couple times. Also, I only race the car about 3 or 4 days a YEAR. So it's not well known and it doesn't really look fast.

I never lie to the track personnel. They will sometimes ask me how fast should it run......I answer "is should run in the 12's". ......well it SHOULD run in the twelves...right? When they ask what Will it run. I answer "not sure....but I'd say at least in the 12's." I'm not fibbing here. It's all the truth.

All kidding aside, I won't put a bar in it. I'm pretty darn sure of that. The car is a Street car first and foremost, and that will NEVER change. I have way more fun with the car on the street than I do at the track. If I have to slow it down, ....I will. That's tough to say, But it is the truth. I'm still tring to find every ounce of power and every last bit of ET out of it. That is part of the fun. I'm done throwing $$$ at the power level of the car. I'm just getting it prettier and more streetable.

Nothing against all the jungle gym cars out there....it's great for safety. I just don't want one in my Street car. I have a ton of safety items in my car. Some SFI stuff that is good until 10.0. For example, I'm going to put a blanket on the trans. Even though I'm not using a brake or all that fast, or race it all that often.

On the cage thing....I recently found out that I've got my first little one on it's way! . So I want to be able to take the little one and my wife out for a drive without climbing in/over a bunch of bars. Just the way I like to do it.

Once again guys, thanks a bunch for you comments. Keep it up.......Jim P, can't wait to see your in a mag!

Larry

Don't imagine it will ever happen. I'm in the middle whrere everybody just flies over. Hard to see the car from 30,000'. But, thank you for thinking it's worthy. Believe me it is not near as nice as yours. Jim

Re: AWESOME LAR 414!! - 05/13/04 01:40 PM

That's really cool that you got your car in print! One of these days I would like to have mine in a mag!

BTW- Isn't the rule 11.49 or a MPH cutoff point, whichever comes first???

My Charger ran 11:55 @ 125.9 and I got kicked out of a relatively lax track.

You and Chip both need to make your cars safe!

Tim,
Not sure. I always heard about the et rule, not the mph rule.
Larry

BTW, it's very hard to focus on anything but the tragic news of Gary's passing.....truely a sad sad day around here. He will be missed.

Re: AWESOME LAR 414!! - 05/13/04 07:05 PM

I've never heard of a MPH rule, just ET.

A little off subject, but did anybody else realize that Gary's reply to this post was his last one. I'm very much affected, as are a lot of others, by his passing. I'm also very touched by the fact that Gary replied and gave me words of praise as his last here on Moparts. Godspeed Gary, RIP

Yeah, I had did a search and found it (his last post). So hard to believe that in less than half a day later he would no longer with us. His legacy will live on with us, that's for sure!

Also noticed.....it's hard to believe and leaves a guy with a sickening feeling in his stomach when you see a post at 10:19 pm and about 10 hours later he's gone.....it's just so hard to believe. Makes a person realize that they have to appreciate life and appreciate everyone around them whom they care about in life because this type of thing could happen to anybody at anytime. RIP Unlawfl and my sincerest condolences to his family.

I guess I should be "honored" in some way, that Gary replied to a post about my "moment in the sun". But then again, that was the kind of guy Gary was. He always seem to take just as much joy from your work as you did.

Gary always took the time to reply to pics I posted of my car, my 69 and now my 70. There are other guys who always do also... it really helps keep me motivated! I never met Gary, but I am here quite often, I'll definetly miss his positive attitude on stuff and was looking foward to his planned motor buildup this year.
