I like it! Please keep the pictures coming, particularly of the rear quarters as I need to do the same to mine. Best of luck with the car!

Cool project, nice job on the quarter panel detailing! Must have been converted to a 4 speed car for quite some time?

Thats a great combo! I think I'd have to leave the pistol grip in there myself.

It's tempting to leave the stick, but the car has the original engine and is very early build car.Aug 19
Also have the tag and build sheet.
Most of my cars with the exception of my current car have been stock.
Even has most of the factory marking present.

Great work Dave! Small world too, my buddy Gunther just bought the '71 FC7 340 4-spd shaker 'Cuda in the background and was telling me about your shop.

WOW, that's some serious work you are doing. Looks great. I agree with Scott, I like the way you finished the new quarters. Not boring to me either. I love looking at how people attack and conquer problems. Keep up the good work.

The road runner wont be done but the RR/GTX will be..

Re: 1971 Road Runner Project - 12/19/11 03:13 AM

Finished up the rear sheet metal almost, just some minor thing left.
Got into the engine, not good. Looks like it has held some water in it.
Hopefully 30 over and new pistons will take care of it but there might be a crack some where also.

Re: 1971 Road Runner Project - 12/19/11 04:38 AM

it looks good!
i have a question...
seeing you welded the quarter on
how bad did the welding mess up that nice looking paint
you did on the inside of the quarters?
Posted By: farmboy70

Re: 1971 Road Runner Project - 12/19/11 05:07 AM

The welds will burn a very small area at each weld.
I painted the quarters to make it easier when the time comes to do the trunk area later.
Hard to get in the tight spots when assembled.
The drop extentions and wheel houses were coated with POR before the outer panels went on and I'll spray down inside when I do the trunk to seal the welded spots then.
Touch up gun with pinpoint pattern for the seams then big gun for the floor.

Alittle break in the weather here so the underside is blasted.
Dodgeing rain drops but finished most of it.

Re: 1971 Road Runner Project - 01/16/12 03:25 PM

We are getting close to primer on the underside and was thinking about the coating for the bottom.
Full paint or factory look.
There are pluses to each.
Full paint is easier to clean, factory is well factory. Both have a cool look in there own way.
Whatcah think?

To take care of your concern about the ease of cleaning, what I plan to do on mine is to spray the grey colour, do the overspray patterns in your body colour and then spray a matt clear over everything. That will give you the factory look plus should be easy to wipe down.

You did great work on your Challenger, This should be just as good if not better

What did you use to replicate the factory sound deadening in the quarters?

Re: 1971 Road Runner Project - 01/18/12 03:07 AM

I used Speedliner bed coating to do them. Narrow pattern in a bodyshutz gun, varying coats to make the heavier sections.
Thanks on the Chally

Been a little slow progress. This is the part of the rebuild I enjoy the least. The grinding and pitt filling part, but it's close to priming, possibly next week.

I am very happy with Speedliner, but we spray it here. You may be better off buying the Resto rick product if you are doing it yourself.

Great, make us all look bad! You took a roached out runner to rotisery painted in four months. Your going to give bodymen a bad name. We give them cars that don't need panel replacement and it takes them years to finish!

Seriously that is going to be one sharp roadrunner!

Re: 1971 Road Runner Project - 09/09/12 04:51 AM

Today was the big day, back from alignment and spent the day test driving.
A few things still need done but all are minor.
Waiting on the correct radiator and a few small detail parts.
It's been fun and hope to get more drive time before winter puts it in storage.
Here are a few older pictures until I can get some out door pictures.
