Yes, 1967 Charger project.... - 07/30/11 06:56 AM

Got a 1967 Charger.... needs a little work here and there, the engine is presently out and I cleaned up the engine compartment, ready to stick the mill back in.....
It's a 318 car but now has a 440/727/8 3/4 rear.

This is the way I brought it home....

Nope, Jensen still 100% intact!!!

This engine has a bit more cam, otherwise they are very close spec wise!

No Friday night for me, I don't think my 1.6 Wave would do well with the rods definitely going to the Saturday event.

Re: Yes, 1967 Charger project.... - 11/13/11 10:00 PM

I actually just came in from working on it....
The car was pretty nice looking but the paint was a bit "hazy", like a dullish light red. I took a bit of polish out, and WOW what a difference! Everybody that comes over laughs at the difference, it's pretty dramatic!
I have the engine in, I finally got my parts, I'm polishing the 3 core aluminum rad.... I might polish the intake too.... and then start bolting on the waterpump housing etc....
I'm only missing my mechanical fuel pump and ps pump, but both could be here any day....
I feel like I'm getting close, pics to come!

Bought a PS pump off a MoParts member... can't believe I didn't have one. Got 90% of the parts... just sorting out the front of the engine, brackets, lining up belts etc...

Had to redo the brand new front brakes... one caliper was seized, I just replaced both. It rolls a little easier now...

Seems like the PS pump drips out the front, not sure if it will swell the seal or needs a new seal.
Aside from that it actually runs good! Sounds nice, idles great.

I just have to make a throttle cable bracket, hook up the kickdown and move some motorhomes out of the way!!!
I'll try to get a video tomorrow.....

Re: Yes, 1967 Charger project.... - 05/13/12 06:10 PM

Well, I HADDDD to try to bring the Charger to one of my best friend's funerals... so I went gung ho allll week, and tossed a permit on it.
Went something like this....

On the way TO the gas station, a few blocks away... I ran out of gas.
No gerry cans to LEND OUT at the gas station, so I bought a crappy little one for 30 bucks. What a deal! Went back and got the car gassed up.

On the way to the funeral my Chickee drove, about 10 blocks in she pulled over. Turns out my brand new Carter SuperPump wasn't cooperating, the car was running out of gas. LUCKILY, I left the elctric pump in the rear, I hooked it up and off they went.

A few miles later (we were already running late now) My Chick pulls up to a red light, jumps out, walks back to my Jensen, and as I get out she jumps in my Jensen and takes off. Turnes out she heard something weird while driving and had had enough. She then put a beating on a Mustang with the Jensen from the red light we were sitting at.

I followed, and a few blocks later the sound came... a rear wheel was starting to loosen off. We were two blocks from the funeral and late, I hobbled it the last two blocks...

After the ceremonies My buddies tightened the lugs. On the drive home my nice new Torq Thrust II center cap went flying off the driver's front wheel.

Maybe a little too rushed, learned a lesson here and there.... but my buddy woulda wanted to see "The Marlin" there as he called it...

At least I made it home!!

Absolute GREAT guy.
Might have some startling news this weekend...

Charger needs a few bugs ironed out for sure, but it's solid, drives decently and seems to have decent power...

Rear rims I bought new, 15x8 with a 3 3/4" backspace. Part# VN5055865

Front rims I bought used, 15x4 - not sure of the backspace, I would have to check.

Both front and rear are two piece Torq Thrust II.

Wellllll.... never reallly liked the way the brakes worked. The car is a PB car, but it has been switched to disc up front, then switched to a manual master setup......
It had terrible brakes with high pedal effort.

I yanked the master out, swapped in a 7" dual diapragm booster and new master, FIXED a hairline crack in a brake line and adjusted the rear brakes properly.

I now have power brakes, and the car stops MUCH better!

Re: Yes, 1967 Charger project.... - 10/31/12 07:15 AM

I also bought a W0/R023 hood scoop, but the middle front mounting stud was NOT centered! It was 7/8" too far to one side!
I've cut the front fiberglass bracket off and moved it over, I'm still monkeying with it a bit, taking a file to the mating surfaces so it is SOMEWHAT straight, then I will paint it body color and mount it. I'm cutting the hood to make it functional, the hood isn't mint so I don't feel THAT bad...
