1977 Chrysler New Yorker Survivor 8,200 Miles - 02/04/11 03:03 AM

Bought car in the year 2000, with about 7,600 original miles on it.

As of Feb. 11, it has about 8,200 miles on it.

I drove it twice in 2010. I try to maintain it so it does not deteriorate.

I do intend to change the coolant hoses this year.
Had to replace the belts last year.
The original tires had to be changed out when I got it.

Thanks.

Engine shot # 1

That brown stuff on the inner edge of fender and the fender support post is wax that was put on as part of the Ziebart rust proof, under coat system.
I intend to clean the wax off and probably paint and detail the motor. I painted part of the valve covers when I had them off replacing the gaskets.

The pictures of the door hinges, and jambs show the fresh paint I applied to them.
As typical, the original paint on the hinges had deteriorated and there was a little bit of surface rust on some of the door inner lips.

Mopar seemed to have missed painting some of the areas under the doors.I corrected that.

You know,me too. Hate to drive it for fear of rock chips to the windshield etc.
I found a new old stock front door sill scuff plate, put it on and already put a slight scuff in it by draging my shoe over it.

The exterior does have some minor chip touch ups etc. The chrome is not flawless has some slight brownish specks in it.
Chrome does not do well in our humid climate.
I do have the car in a storage unit with both a high quality car cover and one of those vinyl car cover zip up jackets over it.

I am getting to the point of not getting so worried about stuff like that. When a car causes more worry than plesure something is wrong.

Thats a great car. Make sure you keep the old belts and hoses that you take off.

I found the car online in 2000, was on Auto Trader or something like that.

The car had been donated to a very historic Church, in Kaskaskia ,Illinois.
The nephew of the church treasurer had posted it online. I do not remember a photo but did note the low mileage, and reasonable price.
I asked for pictures.

The dealer sticker on the trunk say's (Northwest)Chrysler ? St. Ann Missouri.

The original owner I was told was a Mr. Tom Reeves, of Waterloo, Ill.

I never spoke with him. I was told that he was a long haul truck driver for Mopar and so he did not drive it much.
They also told me I think that there was a co owner with him.

They told me the car was not titled untill 1997.Said owner lived in a small town and did not get around to it.

The title does show car was purchased used in 1998,Does not list any previous owner on the title.

Perhaps from the co owner?

Anyways, I already had a 77 New Yorker and with the low miles on this one, thought it would be nice to keep the mileage low and the car safe off the road.

I have driven it 6 or 7 hundred miles in 10 years.
I used to start it every month but do it less often now because the car is in a storage unit away from my house and in one of those vinyl zip up bags.

The car has always started for me. I did have to replace a leaking fuel pump. Have done the brakes, and tires.

I do keep fuel stabilizers in the tank.
I do the maintenance to keep it running. Flush the fluids every few years.
It does have a leaky heater core that I by passed when I bought her.
The AC system needs serviced.

Not a # 1 show car but from 10 feet it does look new.

I'll ask my family about that name. Mom and her family is from Waterloo.

WOW!! That thing is BEAUTIFUL!! I had a '77, but, it wasn't in this kind of shape (not by a long shot).

If you ever need help getting it out of storage, drop me a PM, seriously! I'd love to see it in person, I'll try not to drool on it.
