Spaceman Spiff's wagon project.

Spaceman Spiff's wagon project. - 11/29/10 02:06 AM

Hey everyone, This is my project.
It's easier to post a link to this thread than go through the whole ordeal. Hope that's ok. Plans have changed many times, but it will be a 413 powered drag car/parts hauler theme from the 60's.

The interior is getting redone now, and it will be in for paint early next year in the factory color of Copper Glow.

Re: Spaceman Spiff's wagon project. - 12/23/10 03:27 AM

Please pics of the car in the attached links.

I'm trying to decide on rims.
I'm going for an early/mid 60's theme.
It will have a maxie hoodscoop, and painted the original copper color.

Should i go with torq-thruts, or steelies and dog dishes?
Any other suggestions?
My friend has a '58 Christine clone with drag lights on it, and i LOVE the way it looks. I'm also thinking of those, but it throws my theme out the window.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Well, since you are going to have a hood scoop and it seems you are going for more of an aggressive look, I think you should get the tor1-thrusts.

Adjusted the second gear band, changed out the destroyed trans mount( tail shaft was shifted over about two inches!) added a Holley 850 vacuum secondary carb, fire core wires, and shorty plugs. Runs great.

Re: Spaceman Spiff's wagon project. - 07/06/14 08:08 PM

so, after the stroker not getting done yet, i had a punched .040 over, crank cut 10/10, decked lined honed, cleaned and new springs installed. get it back together, go to drop the lifters in, and 8 out of 16 lifter bores are oversized from the factory, so that's what that little diamond on the id pad means....... which that was check before hand. anyway, with 1,600 into an engine that is now useless, i got this "rebuilt and broken in" 440 for $1,500 bucks. looks to have been honed, crank cut and put back together, and has a small cam of unknown specs. so, get it in, fires right up, no smoke, no death noises.
Back out of the garage, and oil on the floor. take it for a test ride, look like a crop duster, but not from the exhaust....
get it up on the lift, rear main is puking. Pull the pan, look at rear main, old style rope seal. put in new rear main, get it back together. let it run, no leaks. Take it for a ride, more smoke. Pull over, oil leaks again. back onto the lift, pull pan, pull rear main seal, notice crank looks polished in area of seal, clock the seal a little to see what happens. get it back together, still leaking, but not as bad as it was. guess i'll just carry oil and keep an eye on it.
CARLISLE OR BUST!!
Still need to make a heater block off for the fire wall, secure the battery in it's new location, and change the master cylinder, ands she's done for now.

Thank you for the kind words.
It's a stock block based stroker, with RPM heads. It's being built by HPMike on this site.
it's going in over the winter, along with the a/c.

Just found this thread. Great project! I love wagons. Grew up in a 60 Dart Pioneer. I still have the cast iron pushbutton trans under my work bench So what happened to the 413 and trans? Seems to be a gap between it running good in July 2012 and needing new trans in Jun 2013

Re: Spaceman Spiff's wagon project. - 09/03/14 02:04 AM

The 413 popped a head gasket, cracked the block, and heads. Trans was still good.
The engine in it now is a holdover till the stroker is done. The trans i had was a ball and trunion type. This trans is a '65 cable shift with a slip yoke. It was decided that since i was going to use this trans with the stroker, and it has a manual valve body, that we could get rid of the kick down assembly, and move the engine and trans back about 2 inches, and also set it lower in the frame. So to save time when the stroker goes in, all this was done before hand.

Keeping the Draglites.... for now...
Need to get a rear done first, i doubt the 8 3/4 will hold up. Then get around to doing the A/C. That'll happen over the winter, when i have more funds.
Shouldn't be long now.

Re: Spaceman Spiff's wagon project. - 08/30/18 09:58 PM

I have two concrete walls leading into my driveway, it’s about 7 feet wide.
Came home last night from a show, as I was pulling in a cat ran across the driveway and startled me. I cut the wheel a little to much and hit the wall. It’s all gouged up.
But I already have plans for a custom paint job, below the trim line.
