14,900 mile original 1981 Imperial - 06/12/10 01:58 PM

this is my 1st post here

thought I would show my survivor 1981 Imperial. Mom got this car new in Oct. 1980 and it was her company car. She also had a TC3 that she loved and didn't drive the Imperial much. dad also told her she wasn't going to smoke in it, park close at the shopping center or drive it in the rain or snow. She said the car was too damn good for her so she left it in the garage.

It was converted by northside with the kit to remove the fuel injection since they had so much trouble with it.

It has been to Mopar nationals in 93, 95 and invited to Carlisle in 2007

Glad to see you're a Moparts member now Larry.
I wonder who might have influenced you to check it out?
The Imperials are always cool to see, they don't get any nicer than yours.

That car is beautiful.

I guess your fathers advice to not park close acheived two benefits. One being avoiding the dented door dings from careless motorists and two being that with the length of that door it would be near impossible to open it in a normal parking spot with other cars parked next to it.

I had an 81, cashmere cream w/moonroof. Smoothest 318 I ever had. Got talked out of it by someone who had one like it.

Miss it sometimes.

Cool car. Are there any of the fuel injected examples still kicking around out there? Every one I've ever heard of was converted to carb back in the day. I know the reasoning why, just would be neat to see one with the old fuel injection system still on it.

I met a guy from another Mopar site who had one with the injection still intact, and still running, with actually pretty high mileage.

There was one on ebay a while back that still had the Fi and it still ran ok. I'd say there is still a few out there that were never converted but probably not many.

There are a bunch of us. Several are on the IML. I've got one. An '82 (back w/red). The EFI is pretty good. Runs much better than a tired 318 with 2.24 rear should and can get well over 20mpg on the highway. I have some hot starting issues, but I'm pretty sure that comes from the non-stock (out of the tank) fuel pump set up.

I bought it as a parts car for my '83 with Magnum crate (gray w/red), but it ran so nice and cold a/c, so I ended up daily driving it. I've been living in Italy for 4+ years, so it'll be some time before I get back to straighten them out.
