Re: 1972 Dart street toy. - 06/05/10 02:48 AM

New updates in this,

I redrill the factory 5x4 front hubs and use RX-7 front rotors, the calipers are wilwood 4 piston (not installed yet) but prety easy to do by just fab a 3/16 brackets that bolt it on the spindle, weld 2.0 wheels and 165/80-15 street tires, this is a custom brake that really works and cheap less than $200 for it and my work fabricating the setup, it will use stainless braided brake lines.

Those front rims totally change the personality of the car.

Is this going to be a race car or a street car? Are you going to do wheeltubs out back?

I agree. I think people might be curious on how wide of a tire you're going to run out back as well.

Re: 1972 Dart street toy. - 11/15/10 09:45 PM

i did some mock up on the motor today before sending it to the machine shop to see how all the ports match with the intake and how close the headers are to the block to see if i need to debur something and so far so good taking in consideration the thicknes of the COMETIC head gaskets and intake gaskets with more or less .005 off the block deck when done and is just going to be a mater of match port the top of the head ports at least 1.5mm and the bottom of the intake manifold floor about less than 1mm plus the cleanup i am going to do on the ports intake and exhaust on the head, i am in the proces of fab a throtle body addapter with a low profile setup to install the Q45 90mm TB i got and i got already the fuel rail for both sides on -10 for the injectors, so this is going to be a pump gas monster, so "buy a hybrid guys i need your gas"
Here couple of pics.

The intake is a Eddy Victor, and i am still debating on using Eagle or Goza but i got a friend that i trust very much and had been using one in the Powder Spring Hiram area that i forgot the name of it that he told me it is way better and he got the hook up in it so lets see what happen!

What starter are you going to use? I know TTI reccomends Powermaster #9523. PERSONALLY,,,I DON'T reccomend Powermaster #9523!!!!
I had mine off/on 4 times and ended up throwing it in the trash!! Drive went out of it after about 15 starts first time. Screws that hold it all together broke another time. Ate up my convertor ring gear another time. Drive out again after about 35 starts this time. Installed a stock Mopar mini starter this time. Fits better and the bolts are easier to get to. People who say the TTI's are a pain to work on the starter,,,they are being VERY conservative with their wording!!!! I can't give you the proper wording here due to the censoring. I can say that I wish I had never heard of TTI or Powermaster.

Thats exactlly what i was going to do, use a OEM denso Chrysler starter, they are cheaper and i personally have ever encounter a problem with them cuz i use them in many Toyotas, yeap they are the Toyota starter manufacturer.
By the way i know these headers are a PITFA to deal on the A body chassis but i really dont want to cut fenderwells anymore, and to be exact they are not on the car yet and already i had to trimm out a litlle bit on the driver side motor mount boss they just touch a litlle, been a stick car also i need to use a pull type hydraulic slave cylinder a 1980 Toyota Corolla clutch master cuz it is ovious the factory clutch setup wont work with them, pictures on that later.

Re: 1972 Dart street toy. - 03/02/11 01:43 AM

I get to start installing the Mancini leaf spring relocation kit and again run out of shielding gas
I did leave the outside of the factory frame rail just because in my opinion it give more strength to the frame itself, (just my likeness) i did make some holes on top to plug weld the top part in that side to the new box, and give me all the clearance from tire to leaf spring,
And just for all of you, another way to install them, as far as i know, it haven't been done like that before:grommit:

here some pictures,

I finish with both sides of the spring relocation kit installation pretty straight forward, so far i like what i see, i may convert the rear suspension to a 4-link set up and use the front spring perch as a front lower link perch it should be awesome!

Re: 1972 Dart street toy. - 04/13/11 02:25 AM

OK i am not an eloquent guy, and if i don't have a picture i don't update my post, i consider the pictures very important on any update, that's me sorry for the delay in updating this!

First my helper that want to be in every update so here is Daddy's little helper, a box of oreos and half galon of milk every 3 days, cover her services!

Dana 60 is almost ready just cut 2 3/4 from each side weld the housing ends and put it back together and back on it's 4 on the ground,

So far is looking really mean, i cant wait to see it on the ground with the weight of the engine on.

Posted By: demon1515

Re: 1972 Dart street toy. - 04/25/11 11:02 PM

Update is on today as i almost got my Dana 60 rear ready,

Poor man spool, it will be replaced eventually.

49 1/2" axle flange to axle flange + 1/4" of each disc brake rotor for a total of 50" just perfect!

Axle tube welded to center chunk

And the helper was shooting at me the whole afternoon with her new found toy.

here is the rear brake setup, ( on the really cheap )
it consist of a set of used FLEABAY Wilwood calipers in good condition, call aerospace components and they sold me just the brackets for the mopar ends, and a 2005 Nissan Maxima rear rotors, they just fit perfect.

Could you please list the part numbers of everything you used to convert the brakes over to disc.

Well all i can tell you is the part number of the brake rotors from Autozone but you really don't need that part number cuz any rear brake rotor from a 2005 nissan Maxima will work, then the caliper bracket from Aerospace Components for a Mopar Rear end they just have that one, and the calipers are old wilwood solid rotor caliper Dinalite, thats all you need to know to get the same setup on your car,

remember my axles are custom moser ones so you may need to tweak a little the brake rotors to fit your specific axle but it will be very easy to do so with a carbide bit on your die grinder, also my axles are 2.5 offset just like factory so there should be no issues with the depth on the brake rotor and anyway the caliper bracket is adjustable there!

Engine mock up will be next, just to fabricate motor mounts and leave everything ready for final engine installation,
By the way talking about the engine, Pistons are on their way, so soon to be sent to the machine shop to get it worked.

It is going to be a 440, .040 over, Probe Forged Pistons, Eagle H beam connecting rods with ARP2000 bolts, 440 Source 1/4 inch mains griddle with their windage tray, Edelbrock heads, Comp cams flat tapet high energy cam and lifters, comp stainless roller rockers, Victor RPM single plane intake, tti headers, EFI system (custom), 4 speed 833 hydraulic custom clutch operation, Pro Comp distributor, MSD 6-AL box, Firecore plug wires, Milodon 7 qt. oil pan low profile.
I am hoping to be in the 475 to 525 HP range on pump gas.

Goza Machine Shop in Acworth GA is taking care of the .40 over, balance, align hone, squared the deck, rebuild the crankshaft 10 - 10 under before balance it with the billet flywheel, fluid damper harmonic balancer, Spec pressure plate, and installing the cam bearings on the block, Mr Tommy Goza is the best cant wait to get it back to start the engine assembly and blue print!

I did took apart the 833 trany with my 6 year old daughter and we just finish yesterday rebuilding it with new bearings, tail housing synchronizers and gaskets set, trust me without my daughter i couldn't do it, she got a photographic memory AWESOME!

Very nice. What kind of horsepower are you looking to get out of it? Keep up the progress.

Thanks, i hope for 500 even, but if not reached i will change the cam and Boost the MOFO out and i am sure 700 will be within easy reach at less than 15 PSI of boost!

Re: 1972 Dart street toy. - 03/06/13 02:37 AM

just waiting on rings and ready to put it together and close it so i can finally install it in the car with the 4 speed behind!

Re: 1972 Dart street toy. - 03/14/13 01:23 AM

I start with the engine assembly today and already made a mistake by ordering the wrong piston rings, my probe pistons take the 1/16 first and second rings and i order the 5/64 by mistake, my fault for not checking before ordering, thanks to the good people of Mancini Racing, and i return the wrong rings and the right ones are already on their way here, super customer service.

So i just get the crank and girdle installed and torqued down to 110 Ft. Lbs. and sealant plus the rear main seal also installed and sealed, hope no leaks cuz it will be a pain in the ass to do it in the car.

here couple of pictures of it on its way to be an engine again since the late 70's!

Re: 1972 Dart street toy. - 03/17/13 02:27 AM

Well i did a little more today on the engine, file fit rings to abuse type specs, and then got to stop cuz my only facking T45 torx bit is the broken one and can't torque down the timing chain sprocket, so bag it and till next time i got a chance.

Re: 1972 Dart street toy. - 03/17/13 04:41 AM

I hate these torx screws. I was putting together my wilwood front brakes and the hub to rotor plate adapter uses the 3/8x16x1 Torx screws and need to be torqued to 55lb/ft and my 40 snapped. I go to my neibour who's a mechanic to borrow one and he proceeds to give me sht for buying a cheap tool. I get a good one from him go back in my shop and go to torque the screw and bang.......the damn thing breaks.

What a coincidence, my T45 Torx also broke putting together my wilwood brake system. LOL
