79 Cordoba Driver/Summer Project. FIRST CAR - 03/29/10 05:06 AM

Well guys, me and the owner made the deal, 900$ and its mine, but for now he let us take it home because where he's storing it is being sold and turned into a body shop. It needs a Water Pump, Plugs/wires,cap and rotor, and Belts/hoses to be road worthy. Its a little rusty, but for a 17 year olds first car(besides the demon)its Pretty sweet. I'm thinking Lean burn removal, air shocks, Keystones, and some other odds and ends. Whatya think??

The Worst rust on the car Passenger rear frame rail.

Driver side.

Someone Please Decode.

The wheels that are on it now look pretty good. I would deffinately loose the lean burn & install the MP conversion kit. Good luck with it.

Congrats on the new ride! Back when I was 18, my 77 NYB gave up and I bought a 76 Cordoba off of my friend. It was also green but with a white leather interior. Loved that car and this one reminds me of it. I had the Chrysler dress wheels on it but I really like the later `Doba/Mirada wheels you have on it right now. I say stick with `em. My car also had similar rust issues but looks like you can catch yours before the shackles push through the trunk (like mine did). Have fun!

Looks like you have a really nice project there. I had a 76 Charger SE for awhile and really like that bodystyle. I would stay away from air shocks. I got the back end of my Charger up a little higher by installing a cheap pair of longer shackles.

Good luck. Keep posting pictures.

Nice car. E57/K-code is the 360-2 barrel engine.

My first car was a light-green 77 Doba with a 400 LB and 2.45 gears. It would do 100mph with the shifter in 2nd - took forever to get there, though, and 3rd didn't give much more speed than that.

Anyway -
Fix those rear spring shackles / rails / trunk floor immediately! Dobas are known for punching the springs thru the trunk floor.

Looks good had 1 back in the day 79 triple black t-tops, red guts ... all i added to it was smoked head-lite covers & windows air shocks & a nice quite duel exhaust with 'Cuda tips kept it for 5 years till was run off the road ATE a Guard-Rail

Nice ride for a cheap price. I'd only do what needs to be done to make it safe and dependable. Fix the rear frame/spring mounts as someone else stated. Spend your money on your Demon instead of getting sidetracked on the 'Doba as another project.

Re: 79 Cordoba Driver/Summer Project. FIRST CAR - 03/30/10 04:17 AM

Thanks guys. I noticed its only a two barrel when i took off the air cleaner, but whatever it will get a 4 barrel when i do the conversion!

Congratulations on the new driver! That's a nice looking car.

IMO...I'd keep the wheels and the ride height. Ditching the Lean Burn, especially if it is a acting up, is a must. If not, you can plan that as a future upgrade.

I'd second the vote for some immediate repairs to the trunk floor/rear frame rails.

Good for you, they're largely overlooked. I just brought home a 75 from Nevada. I had made it's way to Dayton, OH and sat for 2 yrs. It has almost no rust. I'm looking forward to putting it on the road, going to make a great driver.

Kit is sold on Ebay to fix that.

Congrats. Find a Magnum header panel and hood for it. One of the safest car you can put your youngster in.

Cool car! I had two Cordobas years ago. (who didn't? ha ha) I particularly like the color and the wheels. Plenty that can be done with a 360. Good luck!

Hey Guys, I got some stuff done on the Doba over the weekend. I'm starting to Clean and Polish every piece of chrome/aluminum, so I started with the Rims since they are apparently rare.
Scuffed them with an SOS pad to clean them up, then I wet-sanded with 220 followed by 600,800,1000,then I moved to a Fine Steel Wool, Followed by an Ultra fine Steel wool. After the mild resurfacing I put some Mothers on it and hit it with the buffer and I was very happy with the result, not perfect but darn good for a 31 year old car from Illinois. I only Completed the front two this weekend but I'll be starting on the rears Tomorrow. Also Can someone photoshop for me a pic where the hood/front header panel(around the grill and head lights),fendertops/roof/trunk are blacked out? Thanks guys

What I pretty much started with, these arent the finished ones in the following pics but they are in similar condition to what I started with, one of the front ones was heavily pitted.

Masking

Shiny!

Finished Product.

They arent Perfect like I said but Im stoked about the results and cant wait to get goin on the other 2 rims.

Also Scored a free-bee Holley 4160 600 4bbl from a buddy I ordered a Renew kit I hope its the right one, My part # is LIST 9834, the holley site said for #'s 9834,9834-1,9834-2,9834-3, the renew kit is 37-720. Did I read the chart right?

The Doba waiting for its shoes back hahaha

Re: 79 Cordoba Driver/Summer Project. FIRST CAR - 12/03/10 01:51 AM

Hey Guys Sorry its been a while since i've updated this. I WAS TO BUSY DRIVING THE WHEELS OFF THIS THING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This Car WAS awesome! I was glued to the seat for two weeks strait!(as would any 18 year old) The Burnouts were EPIC! I even took it in a field behind our local abandoned truck stop and had some fun with her! Even Found another 79 in a nearby town and took some Pics with the two of them together, That itself was amazing, Reunited after 31 years. (too bad my phone only saved one of the pics of this) Got a couple of pics with a Fury for sale locally.

And then 2 weeks into this Journey...THE UNTHINKABLE HAPPENS. I'm driving with a friend back to my house and i approach an Intersection doing the speed limit, and the light turns yellow but it turned yellow at the point of no return(would have had to UNSAFLY lock up the brakes to stop at the red light)So i continue and this lady in an 04 impala decided to go NOT SEEING MY BIG GREEN UGLY CAR, She turned out infront of me and the was nothing i could do. I tboned her. I get out of the car and Start flipping out because i did have the right away.(she should have waited for the light to turn red,Yielded, and finished her turn.) I calmed down a little bit relizing im acting like a spaz even though my baby is destroyed...I ask "mam are you okay?" She responded, "yeah im fine but i dont have a Flippin Licence...." This is when i lose my temper again telling the lady how she is up a certain creek without a paddle... Cop gets there(writes her 2 tickets) and he gets me my copy of the report and I drove the car home(only 1 1/2 blocks away).
The Insurance co Totalled it of course but i get more the DOUBLE What i paid for her... and i keep the car. After Giving her life after many years of rest, I have put her out of her misiry and began stripping her of anything any good (considering there is no aftermarket for these cars.)

Ive Blabbed for long enough heres the pics of the damage. soon ill have pics of her on her way to mopar heaven...

Heres how far over towards the passenger side the bumper was pulled(about 1 1/2 feet)

The Real Carnage... bent frame...

Thats all for now Sorry for the bad news yall. The car never failed me and i hammered on it all the time. She was a good ride and I will never forget her.
RIP Green Bean aka The Green Machine aka The Cordoba. MY FIRST CAR!

Re: 79 Cordoba Driver/Summer Project. FIRST CAR - 12/03/10 05:00 AM

Magnum Guy, Shes hurt bad... The front subframe is bent and cracked. the impact is shown through out the car. I thought so at first but after looking at it and getting the fenders off that whole inner structure is mangled. Thanks for the offer though. Another cordoba is in the works.
