My 1969 Satellite find

My 1969 Satellite find - 03/23/10 02:05 PM

I bought this yesterday from the original owner, who spec's it out. I knew of the car for 5 years and randomly stopped by the owner's house on Saturday. He showed me the car and gave me a firm asking price, which I immediately agreed to. It is a 78K mile car with original 383, 2bbl, auto, 8 3/4 SG, and aftermarket A/C. The trunk and floorpans have ZERO rust. The right fender has a ding and the right quarter was damaged and repaired over twenty years ago and could used some attention. Mechanically, it needs a coil and brakes. I got the original title from 1969 and the check used to pay for it ($2788. XX). What do you think?

Beautiful find!

You don't know how much I'd love to find a nice original B body like that...

What are your plans for it? Are you keeping it original?

Re: My 1969 Satellite find - 03/23/10 02:17 PM

I will be keeping it original except for wheels/tires and maybe a 4bbl upgrade. I plan to get it up and running ASAP and use it for cruising around town. My 70 Barracuda is quite awhile from being on the road, so I really want something to drive around.

Great find! Perseverance pays off! I'm not "nit-picking" but, Isn't that a Belvedere and not a Satellite "?" Does it have fender tag? Did you find a broadcast sheet?

Great find.
Yes, it's a '69 Belvedere. Not too many made with a 383. Most were slant 6 or 318 engines.

Re: My 1969 Satellite find - 03/23/10 05:36 PM

I have to admit some ignorance-this is my first B-Body. The fenders are badged with "Belvedere" but the owner said it was a Satellite. The title just says 1969 Plymouth so I just went with what the owner said. I figured that the Satellite and Belvedere were synonymous.......oops!

The engine bay and fender tag are super clean. I don't think the engine or fender tag have ever been out of/off the car. I have not searched for the BC yet.....

No ignorance at all, we learn something new every day.
There were no Coupe (B-pillar post with pop out quarter windows) Satellites or GTX's, only Belvederes and Road Runners.
If the Vehicle Identification Number starts out as RL21, then it's a Belvedere.
I had a black/black one, wish I still had it.

if the vin# says its a 383 2bl then you got 1 of 33...now thats rare!

Re: My 1969 Satellite find - 03/23/10 08:46 PM

Thats awesome! I'd add a 4bbl and electronic ignition, then I'd drive it

Please dont clone it into a roadrunner

My bad on not picking up that it's a Belv... guess the brain doesn't engage too quickly these days.

1 of 33... Yep, that's a rare one!

Wonder what the story is from the orig. owner. Special order?

Nice score!
Clean it up and enjoy it. Keep it a Belvedere.

Is it Y2 or Y3? If I had it, I would not hesitate to go with HP exhaust manifolds, dual exhausts and stock chrome exhaust tips. I don't think you have to worry about minor upgrades like that affecting value. It'll be fun to drive and a great conversation piece!

Re: My 1969 Satellite find - 08/29/10 08:53 PM

Since purchasing the car, I have replaced the master cylinder, all wheel cylinders, brake pads, several brake lines, all ignition components and Mark (GY3) rebuilt the carb for me-thanks Mark! I had some overheating problems this summer so I had the radiator boiled and I should have it back on the road next weekend. Other than that, I just cleaned and polished the snot out of it.
