Here's my '66 barracuda thats pretty period correct. I traded my buddy a guitar combo amp for it in 2004. It was built in the mid 70's and was 440 powered.

I was told by the guy I bought this off of that it was raced down in the Lower Mainland back in the 70's. At a cara show last summer the location, at least, was confirmed by some other enthusiasts. My goal is to maintain the current feel/look while having it feel a little less like the "forgotten"...

What is that? 55 dodge?

That would so cool as a nostalgic racer with an early Hemi or somthing like that.

Re: old drag cars - 03/22/09 04:56 PM

It's a Canadian 56 Dodge Crusader. If you guys saw pics from the back you'd think it was a 56 Plymouth. Most of our Dodges (except the Custom Royal, I believe) were Plymouth from the windshield back and Dodge from there up.

When I got it it still had the poly and a 3-speed manual.. It sits on a straight axle out of a 46 Ford ½-ton. Now there's an Eddy headed 360/A833OD with an old Hurst inline shifter. I swapped in a Challenger 8¾ with 3.73's, and added discs to the frontend. The intention is to drive it regularly and race it occassionally for fun.

The back bumper is a chunk of 3" pipe with capped ends...something really easy to back into with the sling on a tow truck back in the day.

Thanks for the comments.

I just bought a 71 Demon that was raced by Max Hurley out of NC then changed to a comp eliminator car. I got it home and have not even taken it out of the trailer yet for pics! When I get home in about 10 days I will defintitely see what I bought!

Yes, I talked on the phone with the husband of the lady that raced it there, they still live in the area. They didn't know that it originally came with a 440, it had a 383 in it when they bought it. Sounds like it was a great track.
