Not much interior left and somebody robbed the instrument cluster as well years ago...Who needs a datsun grille?

Yep...rough. But on the bright side I did find a set of '69 or 70 mercury cougar parking lights in there that I sold for $20

Its your car man, do what you want! What are your plans for the 500?? Or the GTX??

Im with you on do it your own way, my cars "rare" i guess and originally is an auto on the console and 8 3/4 -- Boring. My mopars are all 4speeds so im doing that and adding a dana -- forget what others think.

I want to redo eveything on the car to best of my ability and budget. As far as custom stuff this will be a street rod version of a '70 charger I guess you could say

Shaved marker lights, shaved drip rails, 1968 charger rear valance, roll cage, flat black, electric trunk lock from a 5th avenue,70 roadrunner 8.75 rear (gear undecided), shaved door molding, original 1970 taillights with 1969 taillight bezels, autometer carbon fibergauges, b&m or hurst mega shifter, poly urethane bushings, just suspension tubular upper control arms, edelbrock performer shocks, and a bunch more modifications in store...Im still undecided on drivetrain as well. I could put a hot 360 in it and get them all wound up.

But Im glad you are doing your car the way you want because if you dont you will always regret it.

Id love to go to four speed but i cant afford to convert it

Here is the very rough door that was hangin on the car. I bought a '68 door to replace it and I know the door lock position is in a different position but Im not bothered by it. I got the '68 door for $40

Re: 70 CHARGER... - 03/11/09 02:42 AM

Thats about all for now as this will be a slow project because after losing my job in July '08 im hurting pretty bad and am still trying to get back on my feet, so no floor pan or frame rail for me anytime soon. These are old pics but I will keep this updated as the '70 begins to take shape. Thanks for taking the time to look at my project and have a nice night

Remember to always look at a project for what it can be, not what it is

Just a pic of the '68 door I been blending in. That green spot used to be where a decent size rust hole once lived. Im pretty happy with it so far...

Re: 70 CHARGER... - 01/28/10 03:14 AM

Still trying to decide between drivetrain choices.
I know I could trade a friend some stuff and end up with a 400, or I could take a 360 I already have and punch/stroke it out to a 408

I could use a beefed 904 behind it, not to mention I already have a 2800 stall converter

I could put the 408 in it and tell the Chevy guys that it's a only a little 318

Re: 70 CHARGER... - 01/31/10 07:57 PM

You're getting there. Hang in there. As for a power plant ....in a 70 Charger it deserves a big block if you have a choice. Sounds like you do.

Well..I have the better portion of a 383, and I could get a 400 at a reasonable price

I just always seem to run across small block parts

These cars are heavy and do need all the torque they can get.

I'm thinking modified 400? If I did the 451 thing, I dont think I could afford a good enough set of heads to feed 451 cubic inches...

Re: 70 CHARGER... - 10/11/10 01:05 AM

Ok..Update...

About 3 months ago I did some labor and aquired a solid low mileage 383 that was made in December 1964. We pulled it from a 1965 Dodge Monaco Custom 880.

I still gotta get a BB727 though and get a 1970 crossmember. My plan is to do a re-ring and re-bearing, then add cam, headers, intake/4bbl carb, windage tray along with some headwork.

This is the plan so far- who knows what it will be next week though

I am aiming for an around town driver with VERY limited highway use. I am thinking 4.30 or 4.56 gears

I have another plan for the car, but you have to stay tuned to find out. I am staying fairly tight lipped about it

Re: 70 CHARGER... - 10/11/10 01:16 AM

Staying with the theme of budget here, I located a '69 Charger parts/donor car. The car is all to he\\ and rusty beyond words. This car will donate the floor pan because it is in really good shape and it will also donate the 8.75 rear housing and axles (the chunk is missing though).

$100 got me this...Oh yeah- 3 more payments and it's ours!!!
