1970 Plum CUDA 340 4-Gear Barn Find Update - 04/30/18 01:50 AM

Not sure what happened to my previous thread, but to coin a phrase from Dr. Emmett Brown, it was "Erased From Existence". To refresh, I bought this 70 Cuda from an estate back in February. The car was sitting since 1988. Virtually rust free and is all matching numbers with build sheet and tags. I'm including some as-found pictures since the prior ones have been lost. Anyway, I swapped out the fuel pump, water pump and carb, and while at it - detailed the engine compartment and installed the correct intake, carb and valve covers. After 3 decades of hibernation, the motor was awakened yesterday. She fired right up, and ran pretty smoothly after burning off the remains of the Marvel Mystery Oil that I put in the cylinders a few weeks earlier. It was so cool to see all of the factory gauges slowly swing to the right and park right where they should. Even the tach works. Now on to the brakes for a refurbishing so it can be driven. Thanks to all the previous posters who provided very valuable comments. Will update as progress is made.

It may have been deleted after it was no longer a WIW thread?

For project updates, you may be better off in the section here at https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/ubbt...r-pictures.html

Alaskan_TA - I am unable to find the post in "MY "POSTS" so I'm thinking it was deleted. I'll check the link you provided. It started as a WIW since I was seeking advice on what the value was before buying the car from the estate and I guess the thread just evolved into a project-survivor.

I read the update & it is gone now, so perhaps the thread evolved past this sections topic?

Maybe a moderator can move it for you? I am not sure how that works.

Alaskan - I misread your post. Not moved, deleted. Bummer.

Evidently the move was possible, thanks to the moderator or admin that took a look here. beer

Can you clarify the paint? You show a FC7 tag in violet and build sheet, But the car itself looks to be B5 in the engine compartment, the cowl and core support are original paint and of course the outside has been color-changed to a dark blue.

What is the tag & build sheet from?

Are the Vins matching? what is the story?

The car was painted dark blue by the owner back in the early 80s. Not sure why the owner painted parts of the engine compartment lighter blue, but its all purple underneath. All numbers match including engine, trans, cowl, rad support, door decal fender and dash tags. Build sheet is from this car. Owner parked the car in 1988 and essentially abandoned it until his brother probated the estate last winter which is when I purchased it.

Thanks for clearing that up, I never saw your original thread so I guess you probably covered that before.

Really cool to see a E body that is that complete and original.
Congrats

Update...

Tonight, I finished installing rebuilt calipers, pads and a master cylinder and took the car out for a 5 minute re-maiden voyage. Moving the pistol grip shifter into reverse and seeing that dash mounted reverse light pop got my heart rate up. Trans shifted nice and no noises from the 3:55 sure grip.
Overall, very happy with the mechanicals. Now I'll give the car a good cleaning, take care of a few other misc. items, then post it for sale.

Hope it goes to a good home.

That such a cool car, love the Keystones. How much are you going to ask for it, roughly, when the time comes?

I've had a few PMs from members who said they were interested buyers north of $30k. I guess we will see when the time comes. I should have it ready to go within the next 2-3 weeks.

How can you tell? The spare was a 14" road wheel so I assumed the car came with road wheels.

Code U82 on build sheet, right? Didn't know that until someone just educated me. Cool. I have a set of 15 x 7 repops that I might put on it.
