1969 340 Swinger... Original R4 Performance Red

1969 340 Swinger... Original R4 Performance Red - 01/30/17 10:15 PM

This is my Swinger, R4 red, 4spd, all numbers matching... I originally found the car in 1995 sitting behind an apartment complex but could never get in contact with the owner. Fast forward to January 2016... 21 years later, I was contacted by a guy wanting to sell a 69 340 Swinger. He sent me pictures and it was the same car... he had bought the car in 2005 and proceeded to take it apart thinking he was going to restore it! Luckily he didn't loose to many parts.
I had the original standard bore engine totally rebuilt, replaced the clutch, u-joints, all of the brakes and brake lines, rebuilt the calipers, fuel tank and lines, seat covers, and the list keeps going. The car is still wearing it's original paint and stripe. After I replace the headliner, windshield, and find some of the missing brake booster parts to be able to put that back on the car the rest will be left as is. I have the original hubcaps plus a set of the mag type. Only modification from stock is a TTI exhaust system. Hadn't been registered since 1972.

Awesome, I have it's close twin, mine is mostly original paint R4, 340, white stripe, auto, with the light brown interior, and 2spd wiper tho. I couldn't do the brown interior, black now.
Mine was parked in 78.

No plans to ever repaint mine... drive as is! I'm going to change the windshield though.

Have pictures to share of your M code?

I'm having front caliper issues... they are not releasing! Both are the originals and have been rebuilt.

Yes, But I put it on there. The original G33 mirror was broken and I had an extra sport mirror.

This car has a really cool history. Motor was removed in the first couple of months as I have a dated picture July of 69 with the Elephant Transplant. It is the red Dart in this Mopar Collectors guide article.

Oh I also got the Cool Hemi Intake with Webber carbs. I plan on putting it back with the Hemi and Webbers drive

Very Cool!

How is the condition of the car now?

I'd like to have a M code car.

It is a solid car except alittle rust on lower drivers 1/4, but the ugly passenger 1/4 (see 2nd Pic) got smack when Al lost control and hit a pole. The floor pans and frame rails are good. Someone did cut center spare tire well out but have one for it.

Car runs amazing. I spent quite a bit on the rebuild. My lower quarters are about the same.

My 69 Swinger 340 4 speed, was originally r4, was painted orange when I bought it. Pic was from 96 just before I sold it.

I enjoy these threads - My ft end should be back on the ground this weekend - finishing my long delayed rebuild. Mine has a lovely patina too!

To the OP, your car looks pretty tough with the black steel wheels and the white letter tires. Does your car still have the fender tag? I'm always curious about the build date, options and factory location. Mine's a pretty plain Swinger - AM radio and tint strip across the front window is about it. SPD 505.

Yes, it has its original fender tag. Its a LM23P9B, SPD 707 Came with the same hubcaps that your car is wearing, I just haven't put them on. Disc brakes, remote mirror, 3 speed wipers, am radio.

The original hub caps are to ugly to put on.... I might paint the wheels body color and add the bottle caps

Sure did clean up nice for what it looks like when you found it. I enjioyed my car the most when I first bought it and it was in original condition (quite worn).

Man that is awesome. Makes me want to get my un-restored GTS out and clean it up. I'd give anything to find a 69 340 4 speed swinger. I actually found a car exactly like yours, except it was a black stripe car, At the time my Dad felt it was too much work for us, as we were just getting into cars.
