70 Fury One--Police Pursuit - 02/16/09 03:54 PM

Go ahead and laff, I know it ain't no Cuda or Road Runner, But it was produced to catch both.

Currently I have stripped my car for frame up resto. So at the moment, You probley couldn't tell what it is. I need to do some rust through work in the trunk and rear quarters, But living so close to Az, I was able to find a clean, rust free rear Quarter panel. I just need a few patches from this, but I couldn't buy just a few patches, Anyway, here is my car in its current shape,,

Do you know it's history? All the orig goods still intact?

Re: 70 Fury One--Police Interceptor - 02/16/09 11:45 PM

the thing on the hood is a warning sign, STOP HIGHWAY PATROL, And yes I have all the goodies, Radio, Lights, Siren, All except that thing on the hood, But I have a source for one, (A repo)
The history,,
Minn. Highway Patrol, 440HP special order car. Used as interceptor to catch other mopars and other muscle cars of its time.
Retired in 75, with 74K miles, Sold and parked in somebody's back yard, 440HP and 727HD had been removed, everything else, intact,,
I bought it in 99,,
Since I bought it, I have found a 1970 440hp block
and a complete 1970 440..

A complete rust free rear clip to repair the rust through in trunk floor and rear fenders.

I completely stripped the car, and it's ready for the rust repair, prep and painting.

"Police Interceptor" .Are you turning it into a Ford?

Re: 70 Fury One--Police Interceptor - 02/17/09 01:18 AM

I believe Mother's term was "Pursuit". When I was about 18 I knew a guy who had a 70 Fury 2 dr, it had a wicked 440 in it, had the two bulges on the hood with 440 emblems on each, it was supposed to be a police pursuit car his father (retired pd)picked up, it had a blue interior and rubber mats/flooring I remember, thought the speedo said 150, but pic above show's 140 - 27 years ago or so... have pics of it somewhere. This was probably around 1981-2,I'll try and dig them up. Hey Colin - how's things ?

Over the weekend I located a 70 Sport Fury. Has a HP 440, Bucket seats with console and floor shited auto, power windows and locks, and w/ac. Not a pursuit car, but a very cool car in itself, and I can get it for cheap money. It'll be at my shop by next weekend. Keep the pics coming. 69440

Just had to chime in. Absolutely love it!
I've been tossing around the idea of building a clone car of my '70 4dr hardtop. Having seen what your finished product will look like I think I'll consider it some more. Is it just me or are the big C's actually becoming rarer than any other Mopar? I NEVER see them anywhere in my area.

Guess that would depend on what way the car is parked.

Re: 70 Fury One--Police Interceptor - 02/24/09 09:18 PM

That will be neat.
I parted out a 70 cop car like yours, and I could have swore it had a 150 mph speedo, but it is long gone now. I was bummed, it didnt have a hp 440, but it was a 440 none the less. I cut the hood up and welded it into my diesel.

Here's a pic of my 64 Plymouth Highway Patrol car my neighbor drove up from Minneapolis/St.Paul area in the early 70s. I'm using it as a parts car for my 64 Savoy.

Re: 70 Fury One--Police Pursuit - 03/04/09 11:13 PM

Gilligan,

I will enjoy watching your progress. I am in Mn and have 5 1970 Plymouth Squad cars. Although none of them are MN squads, I had one years ago and parted it out. I do still have the fender tag some place. I do have a survivor Oregon State Patrol, U code car. It has the original running gear. I also have a white unmarked Montana car and a black and white South Dakota as well as a couple of others.
