'69 Charger R/T tribute pro-touring project - 01/23/09 05:12 PM

The Project: Completely Restore a 1969 Charger on a high school kid's paychecks

The Crew: Cody (me)...16 years old

The Goal: Have the car completely done by the time I'm 17 or 18.

Basic Info: I'm attempting to restore my '69 Charger. I got it in '98 from my dad but he no longer lives with us so I am doing the car by myself using my money. I will be doing everything I can except for body and paint. The car was found in 1998 in Richmond BC and was bought for $400.

The Car: Originally a 318 XP Charger. Came original in T5 Copper with black interior. The seats in the car are rare. They are vinyl with cloth inserts. The car also has a buddy seat. The car has alot of rust. The rusty parts include the quarter panels, rear valance, left frame rails, torsion bar crossmember, front floor pans, trunk extensions and the rear crossmember. The car is basically all complete except for a few pieces of chrome, a few interior pieces, the windshield and a few misc other body pieces. The car now has a 383 Magnum from a '68 with a 727 torqueflite auto on the column. It also has the original 8 1/4 rear end. I will be buying a 8 3/4.

The Plan: My plan for it includes this: Mercedes Benz Brilliant Silver paint with a black R/T stripe. Original interior with the exception of Corbeau USA A4 front racing seats and harnesses. Re-done gauges (white faces) and a different steering wheel. Billet Specialites Vintage Magnum 500 wheels, not sure on tires yet. Replace all rusty sheetmetal with new re-pro stuff. Front spoiler, lowered a bit, rebuild the engine and transmission, brand new suspension components, XV Motorsports inner fender braces and subframe connectors. I'll be making it pro-touring hopefully, kind of along the lines of the Mr. Angry '68. I know I'm forgetting something.
