1968 Dodge Coronet 500 painted top

Bought this car in 2000, been working on it and driving it for a long time. Took it off the road in 2013 for paint. Getting close to finishing it, so I thought I'd share.

Car had been parked for quite a while.

Car had a 360 with a quadrajet on top and 904 trans.

Ford buckets and a plymouth back seat.

Wrong steering wheel, belts, etc. The dash and door panels were decent, but not much else.

Car had been hit in the right front at some point and front clip and radiator support were swapped.

I got the 360 running, but it vibrated badly. The brakes were shot, gas tank was full of gravel. I swapped some 11 inch drums I had and fixed the brakes.

I traded a buddy for a 383/727 and got the car running and driving.

Car ran good after some tinkering, but it smoked a lot.

great project. That Plymouth seat is the same, just needs the Dodge cover.

Gas tank was full of pebbles, so I bought a new one and installed it. Somewhere along the way, I smashed it when the car fell off a jack. On it's second new tank.

A buddy sold me his Coronet 500 four door which I parted out. Got the correct buckets and buddy seat, grille, nice 383 2v, 26" rad support, Steering wheel, and lots more. Buddy gave up some cop car rallyes and cooper cobras. Spent 225 bucks on 2.5" exhaust. First set of mufflers blew out, so upgraded to dynomax super turbos.

Car ran great. I drove it a lot and raced it occasionally. Ran 14s.

Rebuilt the rear end with a 3.55 sure grip, and added disc brakes up front. Cop car wheels with cooper cobras all around.

Car served as summer cruizer for a few years. I upgraded parts as I could and fixed the things that did not work.I bought a four door parts car for the power bulge hood and found some kool wheels on craigslist.

I welded in a 26" radiator support, stripped and painted the engine compartment and added a rebuilt 400 and 727.

finally ran out of easy stuff and started on the body work in 2013.

The car was solid, but had lots of damage to repair. Started taking it apart.

Bam! It's done.

Car looks GREAT Jed. I am really glad to see you have it finished and can drive and enjoy it. It is well deserved. I have dealt with you a few times over the years and have always found you to be very down to earth and honest. Congrats, hope you have as much fun driving it as I do my mopar.

Thanks. Had lots of fun working on it and drove to Puyallup, WA goodguys with some friends last summer. 500 miles and lots of fun.
