1971 340 4 Speed Demon GY3 Citron Yella! #s Matching - 11/07/14 01:56 AM

Well it's been a long wait but I finally got the Demon of my dreams! I found this car for sale right here on Moparts about 5 years ago. I was short on funds at the time and couldn't buy it, but the next best thing, I handed it over to a friend of mine that could and he bought it. My friend Stew Smith and I flew down to California January 23rd 2009 (at which time a record cold snap had just descended onto the Western states) and drove the Demon through 0 degree temps, frozen roads, and snow, all with no heater, no wipers, and (no brains!) all the way to Spokane. It was a miserable but epic road trip!

Now 5 years later, Stew offered the car to me, we struck a deal and it is now in my garage. Future plans include driving it, a LOT! Maybe a repaint and some other small stuff later on.

Congrats

No, it's not a survivor type car, it's a nice rust free Califrnia car that's got an older repaint in the original color in it's past, still looks pretty good for a driver, just not up to snuff enough to be show worthy. It's got a 530hp/510tq W2 headed, roller cam, 422 stroker 340 (bored with a 4.00" crank) in it now, 3.91's, etc....Fast ride for sure! The #s block came out when he bought it to preserve it, it came with the car and is safely bagged and under the bench.

Parked at a Motel in Crescent Oregon on the road trip home from CA back in 2009, MAN WAS IT COLD!

The heater box was broken so the 0 degree air was blasting in onto our feet. We emptied our suitcases of clothing and wrapped everything around our legs to stave off frost bite.

This explains why the cars in your garage got shuffled around. It's an awesome looking Demon. I hope you have plenty of fun in it.

Thats awesome! I loved reading about your adventure getting that car home during the winter. Glad to see you have the car you were looking for. It's the perfect bookend for your Duster! Can't wait to see more of it

scott, you have a car I would like to find some day to go with my GY3 71 cuda 340 4spd. One 71 demon went by my house the other day (curious yellow, black v top, all restored, perfect looking) and I almost jumped in my car to run it down. Definitely the best color combo as far as I am concerned!
congrats!

I remember that story you posted about the trip in the '71 Demon 340!
Heater / defroster acting up, wiper blades frozen, frostbite from lack of interior heat, etc.- epic tale! That's one great looking Demon!

Did the craigslist '71 340 Duster recently sell?

And what is the story behind the '71 Demon shown on the trailer? Inquiring minds are curious about both cars.

Sorry, which one? (if you mean the yellow one of mine in the pic below which was on ebay, yes it's sold to a fellow member, just not shipped yet).

On the green car. Same friend who bought the yellow car above asked me to keep an eye out for a good car for his sons first Muscle Car. I found it a month or two later (about 3-4 years ago), in an obscure CL ad with very little info, took a shot and drove over to St. Maries Idaho to check it out. Turns out it was purchased new about a mile from where I live in Spokane at Dishman Dodge. The guy who had it bought it from the original owners (man & a woman, both named Jerry!). I bought the car on sight and called Stewart about it, told him I'd rather keep it for myself as I thought I was going to look at a clone (perfect car for a kid) but realized it's #'s status and had to rethink things). I decided to keep my word to him and let him buy it, REALLY tough decision let me tell you! At any rate, he bought it and made some improvements since, it's a really nice little car. Kid has now left home and bought a more practical daily driver car so now the Demon is on the block, he asked me to sell it for him so I am.

Details on the car:

It's 1971 340 4 speed, tach, 3.91's, all numbers match. B&W plaid bench seat, manual disc brakes, manual steering, no A/C, non hood scoop car so all green with the black stripes. 3 owner car, all still alive, fender tag, no sheet, never rusty, never hit hard, repainted with some misc. touch ups. Original engine was pulled to preserve it, replacement stock stroke 340 was built to make it a stout driver (dyno'd at 350hp on pump gas, looks stock runs better). Has a restored dash cluster not installed yet, new Legendary seat covers not installed yet. 25K firm. I don't currently own this one, I'm just selling it for my friend. It's NOT a show car, just a 5 footer driver with has no hidden issues, it's a rare and hard to find car with these options so it's pricey but reasonable all things considered.

I realize that this is turning into an ad, please send further correspondence to my email or Pm. I will be posting a formal ad in the appropriate places later.

Now, back to the Yellow car

So what I'll be down to on the cars will be a 1971 340 3 speed GY3 Duster, being assembled now. The Demon above, and a newly acquired 1966 Hemi 4 speed BelvedereII (just a roller now but a rust free, nice body, real Hemi car, dark red/dark red).

Re: 1971 340 4 Speed Demon GY3 Citron Yella! #s Matching - 11/12/14 12:00 AM

So far no big plans, too much going on for me right now, I took it in trade for some $ someone owed me. It's a rust free, damage free roller, original uncut Dana 60, K-member and all under hood stuff is still factory. Someone way back in time swapped out the ENTIRE interior (dash and all) from a 66 Satellite and added some Satellite badging to the body, otherwise it's just a run of the mill Hemi 4 speed 1966 BelvedereII with old worn away vintage white paint graphics over the factory red paint, it's never been caged, tubbed or cut in any way. The rear wheels are non original steel 15.00" x 7.00" and the fronts have been narrowed to 15.00" x 4.00". Weird car for sure. I will probably leave it as is and put a Hemi drive drain back in it for some street driving.

Re: 1971 340 4 Speed Demon GY3 Citron Yella! #s Matching - 11/13/14 06:10 PM

vic probably does. end gy3 car is from the Vancouver area, green one is from terrace orange one from the coast, yours. and not sure of the others.

small show, rare to see that many demons but for some reason around here there are way more demons stashed away than dusters. I can think of at least a dozen within 50 miles.

Re: 1971 340 4 Speed Demon GY3 Citron Yella! #s Matching - 11/13/14 07:00 PM

I agree, more Demons up in B.C. than anywhere else Ive been (nationwide!). Pretty weird! I've seen the orange car at Spring Fling and Vegas MAPS.
Posted By: chrisf

Re: 1971 340 4 Speed Demon GY3 Citron Yella! #s Matching - 11/13/14 08:44 PM

orange one is nice as we know not 100% correct but still well done.

the green one sat in a gravel pit a mile or so from here for years, present owner used to own another one here in town that he bought new. that one hasn't seen the light of day in 25 years.

its strange how there are so many locally but vegas and spring fling shows there are 2 or three. more hemi cuda's than demons.

Narrow them down to numbers matching manual shift, bright color examples and that list shrinks dramatically.

Hey Scott . . . so which is faster - this or the Red Valiant you had ??

Great looking car by the way !!!

They both share esentially the same engine within a few HP. The difference is the gearing and weight (and of course, suspension). The Demon has 3.91 gears and is faster 1/4 mile (mid 11's in street trim) the Valiant weighs roughly 300lbs less and has a top end over 160 but the 2.73 gears make a bit of a slug off the line. A 5 speed trans and deeper gears would make the Valiant faster at both ends.
