My 1965 Valiant wagon build - 07/19/14 05:03 PM

I looked at several, most were just too far gone and this one fit the bill for what my plans were (kinda)

Re: My 1965 Valiant wagon build - 07/19/14 05:07 PM

I was able to afford this gem Oct 2009 , I had hoped to make headway long time ago on it but ..

Life, broken promises, etc all got in the way

Work actually of any fab work stuff, really got started Oct 2013

I had gutted it out, tossed the /6 out long before

In a momemt of weakness, I ponied up for a complete Alterkation front so, right away..the budget was gone !

Re: My 1965 Valiant wagon build - 07/19/14 05:27 PM

Most of the hard work is now done, still a ways to go

Plan is a small block with a OD trans

Still trying to decide on what to do there

Floors , few other fab items and it will roll again

Then I'll make the interior nice , most of the outside is going to stay as is

Have you decided to keep it?

Of all the mods that have been done to it so far, the one I like most is the transformation to a sedan delivery with the blue tape!

so sparks don't mess up the glass dingy

Re: My 1965 Valiant wagon build - 07/21/14 08:46 PM

Well...DUH!! I pretty much figured that. If you take the glass out, you risk ruining the fragile and mostly non existent seals. Somebody in Australia sells them, but getting them here would cost more than the seals themselves. I guess if you had a redheaded buddy in CA, you might get them here cheaper.

Re: My 1965 Valiant wagon build - 08/02/14 06:10 PM

Lol

Made more progress , everything is all welded up and the housing is cut and ordered ends and new axles they should be here in a few days

and, it will once again roll !

Decided once and for all, the trans is going to be a 727 like I 1st planned

I'm going to use a short case to start with and if I hate the only having 3 forward gears, I'm going to install a gear vendor

The 360 and the trans will be sitting in this week

More pics coming soon

I always thought a turbocharged small block early-A wagon would be cool.

Re: My 1965 Valiant wagon build - 08/03/14 06:09 PM

Short 727 is a great idea if you're going with a GV. A regular 727 with the GV added is a mile long. If you used one of those, you'd have a 4" driveshaft...lol. Go ahead and install the GV to start with....it's only money!

Re: My 1965 Valiant wagon build - 10/14/14 05:03 AM

Looks awesome! If there's any way you can mock up the GV before you get the floor pan made, it may save you some grief later on. The GV adapter has a big round bell on it where the OD unit itself attaches, and the OD unit has a corresponding bell flange to make it mate up. It may be the angle that the pic of the tranny mount was taken, but the piece that comes straight forward to hold the tranny mount may hit the GV bell thingies. The car has come a long ways from that rainy night in OK that I last saw it!

The mount is adjustable and removable I expect to change my mind about 10 times on a transmission before I actually need one
