1973 Barracuda

1973 Barracuda - 05/09/14 04:11 PM

I just made a deal on a pretty nice 1973 Barracuda but the options on this one are a little odd. It has a build sheet but no fender tag.
Its a BH23H3B vin with a column shift. It is B5 blue with blue interior.
Is it rare or is it just something I haven't seen in awhile?
Either way its a keeper and I'm going to enjoy driving it...
Thanks for any input and I'll post pics after I pick it up.

I don't think there are any production numbers for 73 but I doubt many 340 BH cars were made. The blue with blue interior is a cool color combo. I think you have a rare car there. Rare doesn't mean it's worth a lot of money however. 73's just aren't going to ever bring much. Lets see some pictures.

Just bought a 73 barracuda myself. It's a BH23H car also with a ton of options, front and rear sway bar, buckets console, double scoop hood, high performance cooling, power steering with cooler, side stripes, and dual exhaust tips. All the cuda options except the cuda badge.

You can't go wrong with a '73-'74. Personally, I prefer the '72's because they don't have the big bumper guards. If I owned a '73-'74, I'd at least change the front bumper around and maybe the rear as well.

The 1972 'Cuda has always been my favorite because of the round lights on the back. Making up for any horsepower loss over the '70/'71 versions is easy to fix...

There were less than 20,000 built total. About 9000 were BS 'Cudas. Most 73s were G 318s. Most were automatics. The Medium blue bright blue interior was popular but there are no break downs of colors, interiors or anything like that around.

This one does have front and rear sway bars, heavy duty cooling, a/c and a highway gear. Picked it up yesterday and drove it 70 miles home without any problems. Very happy with this car.

Re: 1973 Barracuda - 05/20/14 01:55 PM

Needs to be cleaned up a little. The previous owner peeled off some bumper guards on the drivers side and it took a lot of paint with it.
I think it will be painted over the winter.

Engine runs great but it feels a little restricted. Maybe a carb change will wake her up.

Paint flaws, should I keep the top?
Also I have a nice build sheet but no fender tag..
How much does Galen charge to reproduce one?

Re: 1973 Barracuda - 05/20/14 02:06 PM

Yes and the one big mistake I'm sure everyone noticed is the rear marker lights. I think the only solution is when the car gets paint I will fill in the sections with metal. Maybe I'll fill in the front lights also to match....

I changed the rims, tires and raised the rear end a few inches to change the look. I like it!

Sweet. What are your tire sizes?

Re: 1973 Barracuda - 06/03/14 04:20 PM

Front is 245/60-15 on a 15 x 7

Rear is 275/60-15 on a 15 x 8

Its a nice combo on inexpensive American Racing Outlaw 1's...

Re: 1973 Barracuda - 12/16/14 03:04 PM

Well its been awhile since I posted but I finally found some time to yank the drivetrain out.

Re: 1973 Barracuda - 12/16/14 03:06 PM

Unfortunately, everywhere I looked, there was filler, rust or rotted metal.

Re: 1973 Barracuda - 12/16/14 03:09 PM

So now I'm at the point of no turning back, my drivetrain refresh project has turned into a full blown restoration.

Re: 1973 Barracuda - 12/16/14 03:13 PM

This is my first real restoration that is including major sheetmetal replacement but I figure its a good way to pass the time in winter here in Chicago.

Re: 1973 Barracuda - 12/16/14 03:20 PM

Probably won't get to work on the car til after the Holidays. I turns out I also need a firewall. Haven't decided whether to patch it or replace the whole darn thing.

Happy Holidays to everyone and be safe out there.
