1969 Coronet R/T Resurrection. - 01/28/14 04:35 AM

Over the next 3-4 months I will be doing a Resurection, not restoration, on my 1969 Coronet R/T. This mission is to get it on the road and drivable.

The specifics of the car is this, 1969 Coronet R/T, 440 4speed, N96, 3.54 Dana 60, manual steering, manual drum brakes, stripe delete, AM radio. Car is T5 with tan saddle interior and no console, linear dash, no tach.

I will be pulling the motor and trans next week and send the body out to have all the big dents and damage repaired and put in primer. While out I will service and reseal the motor, not rebuild it.

No, I'm putting 302 fords in all of them

I finally got the time and place to get to them, by the end of this year my 500 will be restored, this R/T will be driving and my 37 is already on the road. Next year I start the restoration of the A12

Yeah, these are really fried from the sun so not a big loss. Doesn't look like they cut the door structure. I got this nice set of used black panels that I can use for now, just need to dye them tan.

Re: 1969 Coronet R/T Resurrection. - 03/10/14 06:02 PM

I hope that doesn't turn out worse than the bent pushrods for you. The last 69 Bee I bought was supposed to be a running project. When I got to the point of working on it, it also had bent pushrods on number 1 and 3 cylinders. I got into it and it had dropped a valve on number 3 and busted the piston and the block. So needless to say I had to put a completely different engine in the car.

Pistons look good with just some light marks by a couple of valves. It was in a big Chrysler 300 so I'm guessing timing chain jumped and it died an easy death, nothing catastrophic. Bottom end looks good.

Re: 1969 Coronet R/T Resurrection. - 03/11/14 12:17 AM

Check the pan on the engine. They used to use nylon coated timing gears for a "quite chain". My 71 barracuda with a 383-2bbl had timing that was all over the map.

Pulled the pan and found it full of nylon chips. Pulled the timing chain cover and the nylon gear blank had razor sharp teeth as the nylon coating was gone. Substantial timing back lash.

Cleaned the motor best I could, put in a TRW double roller timing chain and sprocket set (all metal) and kept on going.

Timing chain was not the original one. Pan was debris free other than 20 year old sludge.

Typical rear window rust that we see here on the bottom and corners. We have tons of dust that lays in that channel and becomes a wet paste when it gets wet and just lays there. The car was outdoors and uncovered until I got it 1995.

Looks like you need some metal work and a Dutchman panel replaced.
Heck my Ohio car didn't even need that much work in that area. Lol
(Mine was indoors for most of it's storage years though)
Keep plugging away at it.

I got all the parts, this is as bad as I have seen here, that muddy paste will just sit there and stay wet for long periods of time. Of course I will eventually need to do the truck floor center nut not at this time

Dave that's a very solid car and I know you have History with it.
I believe your plan is to do bodywork and then just a decent paintjob right?

With a car that nice why not just put a few more bucks towards paint and give it the quality it deserves?

Every car doesn't have to have a rotisserie type restoration. Also in the last picture you still have a few things on the car that should be off at this point no?

Ron, I don't want to make it so nice I won't drive it so I'm just trying to make it a nice driver for now and do a full blown restoration after the 500, A12 and 37 are restored, I figure it gives me 6-7 years of driving fun. Yes more stuff has to come off for paint but left it on for now.

Looks like it is coming outwards towards the rear bumper.
Or maybe it is bowed inwards too much in the beginning of the lower quarter towards the rear wheel

You need to acquire my car so you have 1 of each model

You added the complete butt stripe? Car was originally a stripe delete car. IMO I liked it delete.
