1969 road runner convertible project - 12/25/13 07:22 PM

I picked up this 1969 road runner convertible project in July 2010. It had been sitting behind a six foot tall fence outside next to a house for twenty five years. It's an early production 383, automatic car that is B5 with a white top and white and blue interior. It is a car that the previous owner abused and beat on until the timing chain went in the original motor. The first pictures are when I picked it up and the others are after body work and paint. I hope to have it close to being together some time this summer.

Very cool!

Looks like a twin to the one I had when I lived in N. California back in the 80's, exact same color combo, same condition even! Mine was a 4 speed with VERY few options other than the convertible top.

Looks beautiful! The color almost looks light enough to be B3 blue? Is it just the flash making it look so light?

Re: 1969 road runner convertible project - 12/25/13 11:40 PM

The paint is ppg base/clear. It was matched to a support on the rear wheel well that was covered by the well liner and had not seen the light of day since the cars original assembly.

the b5 blue I just shot looks a lot bluer than that except I do have one pic of it with sun about 20 minutes b4 sunset & it looks that light.

B5 blue is slightly different depending on the model year. Same code, different shade.

My early build convertible has an Aug 1st SPD and is B5 with 4 speed. PM me if you'd like to compare cars.

Hopefully we'll see more pics from the original poster with lots of progress as we (hopefully) head towards spring.

Looks familiar!

It's interesting that the project car featured in this post is an August car too. and B5, etc. Seems Chrysler was ramping up to fill showrooms before fall/winter.

The car has been basically finished for a few months. Just had some bugs to work out. Pete and Dave did an excellent job and the car turned out fantastic.

If you drive it the bugs will fly out ..

Just a freakin beautiful resto !
I remember when mine was that clean.
My car was the guineau pig for legendary for
the seat patterns. Nice and white - now yellowed
and blah.. but still turns heads.

Now - i just enjoy mine..

Me and the dawg in the back seat --
Ive driven the crap out of mine ..
Sometimes the ol lady drives and kid is copilot , i enjoy the back seat - when its hot out ..
Its sometimes hard to drive the 383 when ive been spoiled by
a six pack ..

Beautiful! Is that B5? If so, what brand paint did you use and what was the paint code/info? Thanks!
