65 Coronet 500 finally moving forward - 03/16/12 03:05 AM
Well things are finally coming together. This is my 65 coronet yard find. It is one of my favorite cars ever.
I bought it with a 340,727 reverse valve body and a 5.13 sure grip rear. It was raced by the owner and his son and they lost interest and it sat since 1976 in his yard. I stopped to try and buy a 65 Satilite 4sp BB car that has been sitting also. Well he wouldnt sell the Satellite but he said he would sell the coronet. It had weeds on the window sill and moss on it. It also was full of tires and other parts. We we made a deal and I bought this one and also another 65 coronet parts car also.
I spent 2 weeks cleaning up the fuel lines and fluids and It actally started.. I took it home and went over everything and took it to the track and ran a best of 14.0.
I have since built a new 340 13.1 full roller motor and put that in but still had all the bugs to work out. I got to the track 1 time in three years of having the new motor. Only ran 13.02 with a 2.1 60ft and I ran out of motor 40 feet before the stripe at 7200 rpm because of the 5.13 gears. So after working 7 days a week and struggling with the economy . My wife has been laid of 2 times now for almost two years. I finally said it time to just do it. I bought a 4.56 rear, I did the denso alterator conversion. I also ordered a passon 4spd and will be converting it to 4spd real soon. So I am excited and so happy to be moving forward. Hope to be running 11,s soon and then paint it down the road..
