'68 Charger Ending on BaT

'68 Charger Ending on BaT - 03/29/23 04:00 PM

Looking through these photos, not sure who is bidding that kind of money. I see some very major dollars being spent once they open up that can of worms. Major garbage hidden by poor paint.

As is the norm for BaT, do not try to make a constructive comment to point things out to those that are googly-eyed just because its a Charger. I posted two comments pointing out somethings to look for and neither of them ever showed up. BaT filters ANYTHING that might hold back a bid on their site. I'm not sure that I would ever try selling anything on their site.

Maybe 15 years ago. That's all worn off now.

Sold for 60k.

Closed. Someone paid $60K plus 5%, so $63K for a car that needs a WHOLE bunch of work that is obvious, let alone what is hidden.

I don't think the buyer got a bad deal at all. Other than the color. Have you seen what you can get for $60k lately??

Real 68 Charger RT with nice options for 60k!. It appears to have a nice solid body! So, it needs some paint work! If it had a good color, I would pay $60k. But can't get past the color! the seller does a good job in showing the flaws.

I must be totally out of touch with these cars. As much as I see wrong and where the bondo is popping out, I can only imagine what is not seen. I'm hoping when I go to sell my '67 barracuda this spring that people are still spending this kind of money on old cars.

My guess,,, the winning bidder will see the car in person, decline to follow through with the transaction and be banned from participating on BaT for ever.
Then low and behold, the car will reappear with the caption “by no fault of the vehicle, it is now re listed” laugh2

If he has ANY sense at all. The image from the front of the car looking up was especially scary. The way the front pan met the fenders was horrific and looking up at the surrounds near the grille and hood leads me to believe that most of the front end is made from nothing but Bondo. But, if this is what the market bears, so be it. A '69 K5 Blazer (which was very nice indeed) sold there yesterday for $195K...so the market is still nuts.

That cracking/peeling area would scare me off, and IIRC the rust coming through at the rocker/quarter would be a major concern.
But with Charger Fever being in full bloom, and the current market for classic muscle, neither is apparently affecting the bidding.
That assumes the bidding is legit, of course, but I'd bet the bidders aren't familiar with body & paint expenses.
Or, they're betting on the market continuing its climb.
I'd say that at the absolute minimum, the car will need $10,000 in repairs.

That car is getting ready to erupt and that’s why it was being sold in the first place. Look at rust creeping back out from the c pillar area. Just tons of places like that all over the car. That thing will need a full rebuild, probably 25k of paint and body. Way way better deal out there to be had. Could easily be a 99-100k total investment counting the 60k buy in to make this car into what anybody would reasonably want it to be. Plenty of second gen chargers within that range that you can enjoy today. If yiu paid cash for this, you’d be ahead just paying interest on whatever you didn’t have in hand to get a better car.

Maybe its a flood car,my guess by the way the bodywork is breaking through the paint on what looks like a previously restored car.

Look at pictures 13 and 14 in the pile of pictures. Looking at those pics tells me its just a poorly "restored" car.

That's rust starting in the rocker that you can't eve see there. You don't know how bad that can get until you've had to deal with it.

Correct. And remember, its already been covered up at least once already, so probably not good at all
