34 Plymouth coupe project - 10/11/08 10:46 PM

I've been making some progress on my 34 Plymouth coupe project so I thought I would share a picture. I bought the car as a roller without a motor or trans. I have since installed new TCI front and rear suspensions. I also installed a 392 Hemi, A833 4 spd, and an 8 3/4 rear. It has a way to go yet but I'm happy with it so far.

I like how you set up the rearend.I have a coupe that I have plans to almost do exactly like you are doing yours
I plan on using 32 ford rail and making my own frame with an axel as well.

how much tire do you have under the body?
is the top chopped an inch or 2?.
maybe its the pictures it looks chopped just a little.

it looks like you are coming along nicely Ron...

I got to the pics:

It is chopped 2". There is 10" of tire under the body on each side. Tread width is 19 1/2".

Killer looking 34. I can see the tires lifting off the ground as you bang the gears. The 392 is a nice touch.

Re: 34 Plymouth coupe project - 08/12/09 01:40 AM

I've got a few. Most of these are in other posts. New 34 Dodge grille and shell(replaces the 32 Ford grille I had), radiator, seats mounted, working on flooring and trans tunnel, carb and scoop, and filled in the hacked up firewall where the trans tunnel is and where the steering column goes through.

Re: 34 Plymouth coupe project - 08/20/09 01:45 AM

dumb question,,,is that a steel car or glass???

killer combo,,,,,HEMI and a 4 SPEEED
Posted By: B1arno

Re: 34 Plymouth coupe project - 08/20/09 02:26 AM

It is steel, except for the deck lid(if anyone has a steel deck lid for sale I may be interested). This is an older thread so I have since discovered that the body is actually a 34 Dodge coupe.
Thanks for the on the drivetrain. I can't wait to get her on the road!

dodge huh,,do you have the steel front fenders,,,that would be a dead give away to it being a dodge

Re: 34 Plymouth coupe project - 08/20/09 08:14 PM

I don't think Arno ever had fenders for it and believe he plans to run fenderless.

Re: 34 Plymouth coupe project - 08/20/09 08:20 PM

The more I see the 32-34 Mopars, the more I like them. I have a 30 Model A that I am going to rod (using a Mopar drivetrain). But there's a part of me that thinks I might be better off selling it and getting an early Mopar. My only hesitation is that I want to do a hot rod knockoff of the Ramblin Wreck (from Georgia Tech) - which is a 30 Model A Sport Coupe. Then again, most people wouldn't know the difference if it bit them in the rear.

I'm going to have to ponder it all some more.

Re: 34 Plymouth coupe project - 08/21/09 03:50 AM

GTXperience is correct. I never had fenders and I am going fenderless on the car. When I bought the car I was told it was a 34 Plymouth. I traced the body numbers and determined it to be a 34 Dodge.

Thanks for the
I actually found the 392 on Craigslist. The ad just said, 392 Hemi, excellent. $5,000. I called the guy and he started telling me everything in it and I jumped in the car to take a look. It had everything he said so I bought it. He gave me receipts with it that totaled over $10,000. I will know if I got a deal or not when I fire it.

Wow, $500 bucks...........What are they going for these days? I haven't keeped up on it awhile. The last time I looked on ebay they were around $2000 needing rebuilt.

Back 97 I got mine for $325 or $350(can't remember now)......there is no way I would sell it for that cause I couldn't replace it for that.

Hey Arno, it looks like I will be able to keep my coupe now
and I now plan to do it fenderless too

do you have any more detail pics of your frame and frontend???

is the frontend 32 or 34 Ford style
what front spring did you use?
and what cross member?
and where did you get your frontend from?

thanks in advance Ron...

Good deal Ron!
You just have to promise you won't finish yours before I finish mine.
The front end is 32 style bought from TCI. I also picked up the 32 crossmember from them. I'm not sure what spring I have but TCI was aware that a 392 hemi was going to be sitting on top of it. Is there anything in particular you want to see regarding the front suspension? I can take more pics.
Congrats again on keeping the 34!

thanks for the Info Arno
I have been looking at 32 ford frame rail and want to do an axle setup like yours, no special pics needed, I just like seeing how these frontends are put together, its been a lot of years since i ran one and the ones I had were parallel leafs and axle. Ron...

Great looking car. Do you have the TCI link? All I see on their website if FORD AND CHEBBIE STUFF.

Ron, how does that compare to the fatman?
