18" steel wheels - 09/24/08 10:03 PM

Does anyone know who can make an 18" steel wheel that the dog dish hub caps will fit?

I'm not certain who does but you might contact any of the following via the web:

- Wheel Smith
- Pete Paulson
- Sacramento Wheel
- Wheel Vintiques

Its really a matter of using the correct steel wheel center from the wheel that fits with the dog-dish hubcap and putting it into the wheel outer you want to use. The question is, does anyone make an 18" OEM steel wheel"? I'm not sure myself.

I have 17" steel wheels from a Magnum on my 36 Plymouth and my 36 hubcaps fit the centers great. I had to make the spring clips.

17" Steel wheels from a new magnum or an old magnum?

17" wheels from a new Magnum, these also came on some 300's and the new Charger. They have 4 1/2 inch bolt patterns, check the center opening. Good luck!

They don't have a 5 on 4 1/2 inch pattern! They are a metric pattern and are off by about .060" on an inch. They are a 5 on 115mm pattern. the 5 on 4 1/2 pattern translates to 5 on 114.3mm now minor you ask? well that .7 of a mm could lead to stress cracking as your only grabbing on I believe only 20% of the hole. Now dangerous maybe not right now but a year or two down the road the wheels may break and cause extreme amounts of damage.

I have checked into this before I assumed these wheels would fit. The difference in 4.5 inches and 115mm(4.52755") is the .02755". When split in half the difference in the centers of the stud and the hole is only .013755", which is less than 1/64 of an inch. The combined tolerances of the stud, nut and wheel are well within this limit. After forty years of engineering, machinist, welding and building cars I am sure that this is a correct swap. Also Hollander list the 5x4.5, the 5x114.3 and the 5x115 as interchangeable.
