'37 Plymouth pickup comes home.

'37 Plymouth pickup comes home. - 04/20/08 06:28 AM

In my last post I slipped in the pun that we were going to "pick it up". You can tell by my expression that I'm having doubts about the original plan.

It didn't get completely in the air but this was tense going for a bit.

A little teeter-totter action with a steel plate under the oil pan to help it slide.

looks like a good start. what are your plans for it?

Re: '37 Plymouth pickup comes home. - 04/20/08 06:45 AM

I don't know about you guys but I can't bring a project home and not get some quick "seat time" in it right away! The Honda buckets I've had laying around the shop fit inside the cab well. Without the headrests they tuck into the cove under the rear window perfectly. The thing that really surprises me about this is that I felt more comfortable sitting in this tiny cab in those seats than the factory bench in my '78 pickup!

I got the fenders/grille shell mocked up with it on the trailer still but it was too dark for a pic. I'll try to get one tomorrow.

Plans are for it to go onto a Dakota chassis and become a daily driver.
Reality is that it may sit behind my shop until somebody else talks me out of it. At least I'm being realistic, right?

How did you get it off the trailer?

I haven't yet. I bought some 10" pneumatic casters and plan to make some "skates" for it. I can use my Rhino to move it around then.

I got some pics today but spent the rest of the day working on other projects around the house. I'll have to get the new pics downloaded from my phone. It's 1 a.m. and I'm dead tired.

I have a 38 dodge pickup went with robert motors for all my rubber for windows, and seals then there is a few places making glass fenders and grills with inserts one place is called R & B rods ( i think ) if need i can look and make sure name is right. I may have a center pc for the grill its still in the box I would have to look it up to see if its for a 37 ply know for sure it's not for a 38 dodge, need to get back on it, good luck with yours

some people have all the luck! wish i could find a plymouth like that. i know where one is at and have been told by the owner its not for sale. its at a dodge dealership and its been there since new from what i hear. it sits out back and rusts now though. i did drag home a 35 GMC for free though. about 8 years ago and it has a title!

nice plymouth you have there

I have been wanting a truck like that for a long time.. One day I wil lhave it..

What I would do is to put it on a dakota frame, a Cummins 4bt with an Intercooler and a HX35 turbo, an injector upgrade and a 47rh behind it.

It would be incredible... One day... One day..

Great find on an awesome truck...

I would appreciate any info you could provide. 3 of the fenders are rough, 1 rear fender had the back 1/3 cut off for some reason. The hood is missing. The grille shell is rough, one headlight pod is missing and the other is rusted out but I may use Peterbilt or Double J headlight stands with stainless pods. Similar to these...

http://earlyiron.com/index.php makes some glass parts for it. I have never purchased anything from them but I have talked to the guy a couple of times. He was helpful and didn't mind spending the time to figure out what was needed.

Sorry, I've been playin' with my summer toys and haven't been around here much. Thought you were looking into shipping costs and were going to get back to me. Heck, with my current project list I might just let the whole truck go!

Re: '37 Plymouth pickup comes home. - 07/30/08 09:11 PM

I'd suggest a 400 cubic inch (should be able to find one cheap since the muscle car group isn't looking for them) with a long arm cross ram intake (don't hesitate to weld it up yourself if you can't find an original) so that you've got a 4 barrel carb hanging out over each front fender!! Leave the hood off so everyone can get a good look. (one less part you need to find)

Now THAT would be eye popping!!!

Those headlights look good, and would answer what I'm going to do for turn signals.

Almost any engine will fit and as said no hood means one less problem. This is my 37 Dodge, I'm planning on keeping the top of the hood, but sides are available is you need them and if they work (I suspect they are the same as the Plymouth).

Re: '37 Plymouth pickup comes home. - 08/04/08 02:30 PM

Plymouth commercial hood sides are unique to Plymouth. Rather than having a series of vertical louvers like the Dodge model, Plymouth uses a single horizontal louver or flared opening. They are pretty hard to come by.

The way the weather has been lately, that may be a pretty bold statement. A record snowfall for your parts would be pretty much ANY snowfall, eh? Gene

I'm on the Idaho side of the state. Avg annual snowfall here is about 44". We got 3/4 of that (33") over two days time in December. Current total for the year is somewhere over 6'. I don't expect the berm I plowed up next to the truck will melt until well into April.

AZ Bee,
My folks are in Q'site. They get great joy out of casually mentioning that it's "70-something on the patio" while I'm huffing and puffing away shovelling.

I got no paperwork with mine so I'm not certain of the year.
My dash has 3 smaller round gauges/holes. The (supposedly) '38 Dodge I looked at last summer had same gauges as yours.
