1949 Dodge, sectioning and next is a chop - 01/07/10 02:56 PM

I've been posting this on the HAMB, since I've been on there seeing how others have done it. I sectioned my car 2", and will be chopping the top next. The doors I peeled back the skin, sectioned the center, replaced the skin, and cut the remainder off the bottom. Fender looks good, will have some hammer and dolly work, only took 2" out because I still wanted some steel between the top of the wheel arch and top of the fender. Lots of spot welds!

Started bracing the car and I chopped it 3". Hard part is going to be forming a piece to fit behind the rear window, as I had to move it froward to look right, couldn't just lay it down.

hard to tell from the pic,, did you move the entire roof forward or just the rear glass section ?

I chopped the roof 3" and then had to move the rear window forward to get the right roofline.

Got some more work on it, all welds are done and ground around the window, lot of hammer and dolly work. I couldn't grind the welds down enough so you can still see them. Don't know how some guys can weld and finish their metal so much you can't see the welds. Need to finish the firewall and rockers next.

Hope to make some room in my garage and roll it out soon. Then I'll put the hood back on and see how it looks.

Snows gone, rolled it out to get a better view. Not sure if I should have chopped more. Its 5" shorter overall between the section and chop.

Wonder what it would look like it you molded in the front edge of the rear fenders? I think your talent could pull it off.

I plan on welding on the rear fenders and blending them in. Heres a photoshop pic of the car, not sure about the color, I don't know what color I want yet, and that was his first choice. Its a good color for a custom, I can picture it with white tuck and roll inside, but I can't picture driving it daily if it looked like that. I would be too worried about it to drive.

Sweet looking.
I had a car I was worried to drive. I sold it. Sometimes I miss it.
Anyway, will be nice what ever you do.
