Makin' some progress on the COE - 08/17/09 05:55 AM

as I said in the other thread, I finally sold the 48 ply coupe so now I can finish up the squattie truck's interior and get some work done on the COE projects
I shortened the frame on the 46 COE PU 26" saterday and got the 5.2efi engine and trans back in to see how it will fit.
It's feels good to get some progress done again. Ron....

nice work! i cant wait to get cutting and welding on my desoto. i just have to finish the PIA valaint virst.

Maybe my sense of scale is way off, but that looks like a really short 26" cut out of that COE Ron.

The frame started out at 132" wheelbase and I was going to take it down to 100" but my son talked me into keeping it a little longer so I want to 106" that will give me a 8ft bed.

the way I cut the frame worked out pretty cool,

I cut and bent the original factory seam and then cut out the 26" and put the rear frame section back into the stepped down front section and took my measurements and weld it back up just like original

then bent the inside piece back in and welded them.

it worked out great and looks stock

Thanks for posting that pic. I'm gonna cut mine in the same place when I do my frame swap.

It actually came apart and went together very nicely
an I had no help around here yesterday so I did it myself.
I have the air out of the rear tires to get the frame down to ride height, it would not move so I rolled the front of the truck and frame back to it and used some hold down straps to hold things into place and then when "ALL" the measurements looked good I tack it together and measured again and then welded it up.

it was tougher to get the engine and trans back in, it kept hanging up on the crossover pipe

after trying for about a 1/2 hour I just removed the pipe and my son came home and it went in

I just need to figure out how to fit a radiator in it now

I was going to mention that the radiator area looks TIGHT! If you run A/C, the condenser will have to fit inside the grille bulge!

Too bad I'm not a bit more wealthy, I'd get that 34 from you....

Are the cabs the same basically for the coe's and regular trucks from the 40's as i want to make coe truck but cant find one but can find a lot of 40's trucks?

Yes the cabs are the same except for the triangle area just in front of the door and the nose fenders and the lower skirt.

but I have plans to do a radical COE using a regular cab and fenders ans splitting the nose down the middle and shortening the fenders, "BUT" I will have to modify the front of the door to look more like a ford or chevy coe here is my mock up
