National Street Rod Assoc changes the rules .. - 04/16/09 01:17 PM

http://www.nsra-usa.com/

They were the last hold outs on PRE-48 only, they had jumped a FEW events up to 64 and a FEW OTHERS to 70 in the past years

The email I got today says they are going with a 30 year rule for all events in 2010
Its not showing on website yet ?

So, if and when you attend ..expect the crowd with 32 furds to be grumpy

Do you even bother to read the information in the thread ?

I posted it where it should be ..

Cause now anyone can attend .. well back to cars 79 and older ?

Yeah i wonder if it was changed strickly as a money maker? I know a lot of my friends with 32 Fords will not be so happy the likes of me can now attend.

Re: National Street Rod Assoc changes the rules .. - 04/16/09 01:52 PM

I'm sure they had to move the years
new guys can't find cars or parts to build pre-48's forever

They fought the change for many years
It will hiss off 75% of the current members

Wait till someone with a 32 is flanked by a Pacer and a Matador ..

We already get 3500+ cars here for the Street Rod show every year...
All opening it up to 79 is going to do is kill it...
As most of the Street Rod guys will get pissed off when the trailer queens start rolling in.

The Street Rod show has been my favorite show for years...
Mainly because you will NEVER hear any of the following the phrases:
"Wow, I can't believe you actually drove it here... and in the rain too"
OR
"Ah it ain't a real hemi... its just another cloned 318 car"
OR
"Man that original paint is getting faded & chipped... you know A Hemi/6-pack car deserves fresh paint!"
And lastly...
"That car didn't come from the factory with that!" ...

I like Carlisle too... however the constant picking on car details starts to get old.
The street rod show doesn't come with all the snide comments you overhear at Carlisle when looking at a nice car.

you know I can see moving it up to about 1972 or 1974 but a 30 year floating scale I don't know
I know I dont care to see 76-80 corvettes or Malibu's at a streetrod show, I cant see how many more cars they could fit at York.
I think if they opened it up to 74 All the muscle cars along with the streetrods would be more than enough for most of their events Ron...

What is going to happen when the DONK and Bubble crew start to show up? Talk about a conflict of personalities. I can already see the guy with the fiberglass 32 Ford going ballistic when the 79 DONK on 26" wheels rolls up next to him.

2010 – The beginning of the Plus years"

Beginning in 2010, vehicles thirty years old and older will be accepted for participation at ALL NSRA events.

As we head into our forty-first year, it has become an overwhelming majority of our members who are requesting that we open our events. Most are making the request in order for them to be able to continue to participate as a family – parents, children and grand children. The National Street Rod Association has always been and will continue to be focused on making our events a family activity.

The National Street Rod Association remains committed in our efforts to provide our members the very best!

Please be advised this change begins in 2010 and for this year (2009), only the Richmond, Burlington, Sacramento, and Tampa Nationals will be open to 30 year and older vehicles.

If you want to get technical most of those 32 fords arent 30yrs old. Yeah their steel but they are new bodies and what year does the title say. They just need to kiss it up and not wine. It was bound to happen someday. 70s car are old now

Or a guy with a 49 Dodge Panel truck or 49-52 dodge truck...they all look the same only difference is the date on the title! Doesnt make much sense to me personally.

i am somewhat disturbed by this announcement. it seems like a decision to go after more bux......but on another thought, the average age anymore is mostly greybeard.

is part of the problem, NSRA has a large chunk of senior citizen members and needs to atrack younger members.

ive heard car clubs are saying street rods are a dieing breed,,people not intrested in antiques either,,there is a big street rod event here in pa,,30 year old show,,up to 1963,the last 2 years attendence was down,, that club thinks cause the same people comming for 30 years are bored,i think its because gas was almost 5 bucks a gallon last year,,,so this year the show opens to 1969..i love muscle cars,,and street rods i have one of each,,but i like to go to the rod shows to see street rods,, ill go to a muscle car event to see muscle cars,,,ITS A MONEY THINK.PERIOD

From another forum. Looks like about 4,000 people are boycotting the "STREET ROD PLUS some other cars NATIONALS".

Quote:

Just back from picking up our packet for the Nationals, they're showing registration numbers only going up into 7200. That's way down from past
years & they can't blame it on the economy (but they will). Looks like the shirt
prices are up too, $20 for the T-shirt. Looks like they cut their noses off the spite their face. JMHO
