Sending unit

Not sure where to put this really. But I bought an aftermarket bezel and gauges for my 51 Cambridge. the supplied fuel level gauge is a 240-33 ohm setup. Most older mopars use 73-10. Well in 1951 Mopar was 90-10, probably more years than that. Both use 10 ohms for full but differ on the reading for empty which means it won't read empty correctly. I suppose that isn't a bad thing as it will show empty early which is better than showing a quarter tank and actually being empty. there is no gauge matching the rest I am running that uses the stock sending unit spread though.



Speedway sells an interface module that makes any sender work with any gauge, though at $105 it's cheaper to buy the right gauge if available.

Might just spring for the 73-10 gauge.

Like most things generic, most aftermarket gauge sets come with fuel gauges that have the ohm rating for a GM fuel sending unit.

You basically have 2 options.
1) Get and install a GM fuel sending unit in your tank.
2) Buy a fuel gauge that matches the ohm rating on your existing sending unit. Before you go this way, be sure your sending unit functions correctly and is in good condition.

I would be suspect to the adaptor Speedway offers. I think I would rather just install a GM style sender in my tank then put something in between the gauge and the sender that is suppose to fix every ohm rating difference. Speedway has not been known for having high quality stuff.

It may be easier and cheaper to just install a free standing fuel sending unit for the GM ohm rating then any other option. It could be as easy as simply installing a new GM style sending unit into your tank, I believe there are several free sending units on the market. Gene

Gauge I have isn't GM spec. Neither the original not the aftermarket one. Not sure what's going on with that but it's the generic aftermarket range, 240E/33F.

Well, I found the Mopar version of the fuel gauge on sale for under $18 delivered. Can't really beat that price. Anyone need a new Autometer Old Tyme Black fuel gauge (240E/33F) with matching 5 bolt sender?

i "think" the stewart warner fuel gauges are 240-33 ohm units.
