Anybody hook up Dakota wiper control to old one-speed wiper

Anybody hook up Dakota wiper control switch to old one-speed wiper motor?

Did you get the delay / intermittent to work ?

Not there yet, but have to drive myself nuts thinking about non-existent future problems (old fool). Thanks.

i don't think it would be difficult to hook the old one speed motor up to to the dak switch, but the intermittent feature is run through the body control module.
i would have to study the wiring schematics and read up on the diagnostics to see if that could be possible.
if going to that trouble for only a single speed, i think i would adapt the complete dak wiper system as well.

Here a DIY Kit that might be the ticket.

Interesting thought. I've always used the complete Dakota wiper system and it works pretty well. All the intermittent system does is adds a timer between the on and off cycle of the motor, the theory is it should work with a one speed wiper motor, as long as the motor is 12 volts and in good shape. The Dakota intermittent wiper wiring harness has a little black box the plugs into the harness. Gene

that's interesting to know gene. i thought the delay function was controlled by the BCM.

Yea, the intermittent wipers on the newer Dakotas may be controlled by the BMC, I haven't dealt with many newer then about 91. They were much more simple. The older stuff still had switches that were off and on, not a change in voltage for the computer.I think the change was made in about 93 or 94. Gene

Really small useless update. Change of plans, the 1992 Dakota wiper motor is almost a bolt into the '56 bracket.
Not wired into the Dakota wiring harness / steering column yet so not sure if its going to work.

Now, if I could figure out,at age 75, how to get back up and out after lying upside down under the dash help

BCM? I have had several 96-older Dakotas and NONE had a "BCM"..... don't exist.
youre talking BCM as in "body control module" right?

I just turned 63, getting out from under the dash is very difficult for me already, I'm afraid by the time I get to 75 (if I make it that far), even considering getting under the dash would probably be a deal breaker. I paid someone to change the heater core in my 96 Dakota a couple weeks ago because I didn't want to have to remove the dash.

Years past, I wired up an old 2 speed wiper motor with an off-on-off switch. one on was low speed, the other on was high speed. The problem was when you turned it off, the wipers stop immediately, they would not park. It took some practice, but I got pretty good at having them stop at the end of the stroke. A Dakota has 4 wires to the motor, the motor grounds through the switch. One wire is power in, one is low speed to the switch, one is high speed to the switch, and the last one is for park position (I think its momentary power after the switch is shut off) but I don't have the book with me right now. I'm 54 and last weekend I spent three hours under the dash sorting out the wiper linkage setup on my 51, the PO removed it and I had no good source as to how it went back in.
